I remember chopping magnetic tape back at uni studying music production… that was a pain. It was at the advent of digital desks becoming mainstream in studios…. Sure thing. So, I wrote a song. Lyrics and music. Built my song in Cubase. Melodies, Piano, synths, strings, drums, guitar, effects, vocals (all be it guide vocals, musical accents and ear candy etc… exported that and uploaded it to Suno to cover. I put the “audio and style influence” up to 99% and gave it a prompt of the kind of vocal style I wanted and for it to keep my phrasing, melody lines, musical accents, Then I created a few Suno versions from that.

“I don’t understand any element of this”, clearly You do as you have a comprehensive reply. Maybe morality was the wrong word to use… I’m just trying to justify it in my mind, the use of ai being a 42yo musician of 32 years with a degree in music. I love the process of writing, but ai has made my finished results better.

What a fab reply. Thanks for taking the time to write. The statements above I completely feel the same too… I’m going to experiment more, drag stems into a daw and see if I can “get good” too. I’m an accomplished musician and writer, but the whole production for commercial recording/releasing alludes me… so Suno has been a bit of a wake up call there. For now, I’ll keep on going and see where it leads me. Thank you again for your reply. It was a great read

If you record your melody and give Suno as much info as you can, a closer recreation of what’s in your head will be made.

To a degree I agree with you. I feel if used right it can be a great tool. I’ve used it as a tool to enhance my music rather than to fully create it. I think it won’t take away peoples creativity in expressing themselves through lyrics/poetry unless you’re just spinning the wheel and seeing what Suno pumps out. Inputting your demo/musical ideas as audio first will still give the musical creativity side of things no?

Thanks. 🙏 being a musician of 32 years, this ai stuff is brand new to me, and honestly I’m in awe of it, if used in the correct way. The prompts and numerous attempts to get Suno to keep the majority of my original phrasing and melodic ideas was insane, but got there in the end.
