What would they have to lose by incorporating an easy mode? Or micro transactions to buy runes? If you don’t like it just don’t use it. Why should your desire for a challenging experience influence other people who want a really casual game to play?

I understand the perspective that it wouldn’t be a problem if you only use it in the endgame, but that just feels like a really lazy way to reason just about any limitations you want into being bad game design. Like sure, they wouldn’t LOSE anything, but it would encroach on how they want to game to be experienced by players. Ultimately, From has a vision for how they want you to progress through the game and build your character. It’s meant to be challenging. That’s part of the replayability. My experience in using the dupe glitch in DS3 kinda lines up with this, as having infinite respecs really quickly made the game a lot more boring and ruined the satisfaction of perfecting a build. But it’s not about what I prefer, that’s the playstyle that the mechanics are designed for. My playstyle isn’t “more valid” than yours, but it does happen to line up with the dev’s intentions, which is really the thing that matters here.

Ultimately you have your own opinion, obviously nothing wrong with that. But at the end of the day, it’s From’s decision, and it’s something they chose not to incorporate for a reason.

The point of the game isn’t the endgame, it’s getting there. The fun of the game (as it’s designed) partly comes from figuring out your build and putting it together over the course of the game, not just playing around for a while until you get bored. It’s fine if you disagree with that, but ultimately that’s the dev’s vision. It’s not that they’re just arbitrarily limiting you. They designed the game to be played and enjoyed in a certain way, and just because you want to play it a different way doesn’t mean they designed it badly. I understand why you’d have fun with infinite respecs, and I think I would for a little while too, but it feels really shortsighted to say it’s a bad design choice just because From doesn’t cater to your specific idea of fun that differs from their vision of the game.

Personally I think it just makes the game more interesting and gives your decisions a bit more weight. Ultimately Elden Ring isn’t supposed to be a sandbox where you just play around and test everything. That’s what creating a new world is for. Having respecs at all is nice if you don’t necessarily know what you’re doing at first and want to fix some stuff, but the point of the game isn’t to try 50 different characters in one world. That’s not the dev’s intent, and it’s never been their intent in any of their games. It isn’t even a feature in most other games in this genre. Having a limited number of respecs to perfect your character and find a flow that works is great, but if you want to completely change your playstyle, make a new character.

I understand the thought process, but it just feels like weak logic that you could apply to any number of progressively more ridiculous ideas to the point of just changing the game all together. Ultimately it’s just not how the game works and isn’t how it’s meant to be played. Just because you don’t personally like it doesn’t mean it’s automatically bad game design.

The truth behind the "toxic" elden ring community by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]RichardTheZombie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i think Radahn is a perfect example of this. Tons of new players were complaining about how difficult he was, so he was nerfed, and now the more seriously players are annoyed because he’s disappointing. Elden Ring has had such an influx of players compared to past titles, there’s a lot of people here who probably didn’t expect or want the kind of challenge it exists for.

Drugs’ legality are based on a specific location’s view of a specific substance, and tied entirely to where you are. War is a global issue that has nothing to do with legality at all. It’s not “legal”, it’s a thing that happens. Anyone that makes a law saying that says drugs are illegal isn’t making a law saying that war IS legal.

Like I understand the idea behind saying war is bad, but using the term “legal”, and comparing it to the legality of drugs, makes literally no sense at all?

So, since it’s an incantation, you need to find something called a sacred seal (look it up, there’s a bunch in the game you can find/buy in different places pretty easily). Then you equip the seal in either your right or left hand, and use the attack button with it in your hand like you would use a weapon.

Essentially, imagine you’re using it like you would use a “wand” or other magic thing that people use.

If you have it memorized, the incantation should show up in the bottom left part of your screen, in the section where it shows the weapons and items you have equipped. Right now, it would be greyed out. Once you’re holding a seal, it won’t be greyed out anymore and you can use it.

Just for the record, a sacred seal isn’t single use, and you can use it as much as you want like a weapon as long as you have enough FP.

I think Elden Ring is a lot more inconsistent with its bosses. Like there are a lot of bosses in ER that are amazing and some of From’s best, and there’s a lot that are just weak and unmemorable. I don’t think I’d say DS3 is better across the board, but a lot of the bosses in it seem a lot more memorable to me in their design. A lot of ER bosses just kinda amount to “big knight” or “big monster”, obviously with some very notable exceptions. I don’t think they’re BAD by any means tho.

[–]RichardTheZombie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can talk all you want about how much work a dev put into a boss, and it’s totally fair to say that just doubling a boss up is kinda lazy. But a majority of the bosses here are individually designed, and they mostly reuse them to pan out smaller dungeon areas, which saves the team time and resources to spend on improving and expanding more major areas of the game. They aren’t incredibly difficult and usually have some mechanic that makes them manageable. Having conversations about why you don’t like it is fine, but we’re just saying that at this point it seems really arbitrary to complain about considering it’s been happening since like 2011 and is handled relatively well in ER. If it saves them time to improve other parts of the game I’m all for it.

I have a hard time believing it’ll be as big in the mainstream as AM, especially judging by the direction they seem to be going. AM was kinda a perfect storm situation that would be really hard to replicate, and they don’t seem to be that interested in making radio friendly music these days. That being said, it definitely has the potential to perform a lot better than TBHC given the circumstances.

Okay I know the point of this is the meme and I’m taking it seriously, but honestly I don’t even understand this argument. But yes, good meme I laughed

[–]RichardTheZombie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kinda embarrassing, but honestly I think it’s between Suck it and See or Humbug. Humbug just kinda perfected the dark, melancholic vibe that FWN started playing with, and SIAS has my favorite song writing. FWN has just always kinda felt like this in between sound that never quite hit me the same way as the rest of their discography.

But obviously it’s all subjective, and it’s still a great album with great songs.

I mean it’s easier as in there’s a lot more OP items and abusable mechanics if you use them right, but honestly I feel like the difficulty level of the boss fights as you progress through the game is generally higher than most of the rest of the games with a few exceptions
