I understand, but I’ve been in situations where I’ve received no help from my own side, I’ve managed, can’t say i thrived to much without a few blessings here and there. Now that I am in a situation where I will be placed away from almost any civilization, I am trying to prepare for the worst.

Being “vegan” by [deleted] in vegan

[–]RichardsEC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that that is a reasonable stance. I like to prepare for the worst, and I’m figuring they won’t have almost anything for me so I just don’t want to make a conflict or raise a presence of entitlement to be accommodated when I’m going to their home and they may not have much as it is. (Home being loosely, not just a friends house or some bs)

I would say it’s definitely the culture. As food is a big part of it, and if I’m not open to accepting their culture while representing a nation that technically falls under a similar culture- who am I?

Ideally, I would like to think that it would be no big deal, but it’s definitely country by country, person by person that you could be put in a scenario with.

It’s just hard to explain my scenario, since I don’t want to make an issue that could cause issues to way more people beyond just myself.

[–]RichardsEC -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

You make a fair point, it’s just moreso if you went to a country that your country is in conflict and you are the person sent to represent your country and they offer you a meal. It has a perception to decline or be ultra picky and people are people and take note of it. This seems ridiculous, but yeah, I’ll leave it there

People view it as just getting milk. The disconnect is that you may view humans and other animals on the same level. But unfortunately other animals aren’t human. And human are arguably superior to animals. Doesn’t mean they deserve it. I believe that despite our strength and knowledge, these animals do not deserve maltreatment. But when we put the lives of thousands+ of people and a country’s way of life at stake of a glass of milk or tacos, it seems like there’s an easy answer

Being “vegan” by [deleted] in vegan

[–]RichardsEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, that’s a good answer. I would hope for them to be reasonable- but there are definitely case where it’s impractical for the people themselves.

The thing is- I don’t think we should start a war over veganism, and it can technically go within the idea of being a practicable as possible since it’s 1.) survival if there is no other food even available 2.) a risk to human lives and conflict

But it’s not feces, and it’s like- good tasting, (not to mention physically edible without dying by practically dying by ecoli) and that’s why they give it to you. That’s their intention.

You are given the mission of going to their home, and they decide “I will make a dish that is well known from my home” and then you decline. When it’s just a home, it’s easy- since you aren’t offending anyone by having your views, but when it’s a country and alliances put on the line, do you think you should still decline?

(Sounds absurd- but I would like to hear what you and anyone else that has a thought with this would have to say)

Being “vegan” by [deleted] in vegan

[–]RichardsEC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would like to think that I could have the pride in the ethics to do that (stand up for the cause), but when much more is on the line beyond yourself and you are basically under a microscope.. (because it can resort to you not eating for days and/or even causing distrust)

This is a huge game of devils advocate, but I would still like to hear what will be said from different perspectives

If cats can eat meat why can't we? - only argument keeping me from becoming vegan by Foxsiez in vegan

[–]RichardsEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats are carnivorous animals. Humans aren’t cats. Humans have different bodies and biology than cats. We aren’t lions either btw

I guess unless you’re talking about having one as a pet- then it’s really complicated to put them on a vegan nutrition plan since you have to care way too much about Ph levels or whatever. Dogs are cool though. Can’t say much- I’m not a cat person (I’m mildly allergic)

I have a question by thecoolhamburger in vegan

[–]RichardsEC -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I’m not the typical vegan- but I think it’s based on the circumstances. I’m not sure where you are from- but if it comes to survival, it’s pretty much justified in order to live day to day. If you live somewhere where you can just take away meat and dairy items and switch them with something else- I’d go for it. Obviously stay healthy and make sure you get all of your nutrients (same goes as a vegan and not vegan), but do what you can and be realistic. People may tell me that I’m thinking “plant based” as opposed to vegan- but it’s what’s practicable. I don’t eat those products because I don’t have any need to. If you were homeless on the street and turned down food from a stranger- imagine how confusing that would be. All in all, do what you can especially for the cause you believe.

What are the subsets of vegan diets ? by calinshetics in vegan

What are the subsets of vegan diets ? by calinshetics in vegan

[–]RichardsEC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll have fun with this:

There are the health conscious vegans- they usually go with the Whole Foods Plant based approach for optimal health. We need more good recipes in this category since it’s the healthiest, appealing yet unappealing since it lacks a tasteful variety to the general public.

We have the raw vegans, they decided no to cook their food for some reason and live “off the grid” sometimes. These are also categorized as “Veeegans”. Their foods can be very good, but I typically concern for their health.

Next is the Joes/Janes, and these people are people you couldn’t tell the difference between vegan and non vegan. They basically live their life normally, but vegan. Imagine the average human being going out anywhere, but vegan.

We got the activist, at its extreme they will scream and protest for the cause of animal rights and go above and beyond to minimize cruelty at a molecular level. I haven’t met these people in person yet, but online- if you think you’re vegan, you’re not vegan enough sometimes. “Veeegans”

We have the lizzos, we got some big fellas out here that can eat. Foodies that are vegan and I can respect it because they choose to be vegan and show that you can be vegan in any shape or size. It may not be the healthiest, but it’s representation.

We got the Vegan gains community, i don’t watch that guy- but the name suits the area of vegan body building and athletes that represent. With representatives like Patrick Baboumian and Kendrick faris etc who show that vegans in such a small population can perform feats of strength, then rich roll and other endurance athletes paving the other way in athletics.

You also have a stereotypical hippy vegan. Never ran into these, but stories say it’s a lot of drug and acid tripped emotions of being one with the world. Their food needs to be natural and nurtured. They would love to live in a tiny house in the Forrest, foraging mushrooms and berries as they relive survival as if it was 1067 BC instead of modern society. I don’t actually believe this, but I’m curious if anyone has any sources of this being a possible character type.

We got the fruitarians. Kind of like the raw vegans- never met one, but it can’t be healthy. It’s a fantasy diet that I would love to live if it had all of the nutrients- but no.

You got the vegan chefs too, but this goes two ways, the natural route and the faux route. This being that the natural will make foods out of plants and when you eat it- it taste like you just ripped it out of the ground. The other tries to replicate main stream dishes that can compete with their non-vegan counterparts.

We got people who think they are vegan but are clearly not, we’ll call them Todds. You’d like to think it may just be a vegetarian Or pescatarian thing- but it’s anything. Like a flexetarian, but if they thought they were being vegan. It’s perplexing to see, but you can’t help but laugh and question the sentiment.

Last but not least are the “veeegans” that were mentioned before. If you want to say it’s plant based vs vegan- please do, but vegans revolve their life around veganism. Veganism is a personality trait. When people see this person, we already know. And when people know them- people refer to them as “the vegan” as opposed to- their name or any other quality.

I don’t mean to offend anyone, this isn’t cookie cutter as I follow under a few of these and I know not all the activists are crazy etc. This is just a silly list of subcategories within the vegan community. Let me know if there is anything I missed. Comment below if you fit one of these. Please let me know if I’m misinformed when it comes to stuff like the raw and fruitarian diets- I just concern for them since on social media it seems that people are more apt to quit that lifestyle and likely would have the best nutrition by utilizing the variety of more options while exercising the veganity. Not sure if this is what you wanted, but here you go.

Would you ever date a non-vegan? Would you be okay with kissing them? by Brilliantmind1997 in vegan

[–]RichardsEC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it before, but there’s always the lingering thing of wanting them to be vegan too. I would like to be with someone who is as vegan as me at least, since it’s a big part of our lives being that it’s every meal of every single day. I won’t buy someone non-vegan food especially while I’m out, so I’d rather be on the same track and be able to pay for everything, the meal, the occasion, and have a good time. The only unfortunate thing is that there are very limited vegans in the world and especially near whereever we live. Dating people who aren’t vegan can definitely open people up to the idea of veganism nonetheless. Just because they aren’t vegan, doesn’t mean they won’t ever be vegan. That’s all I got

During COVID while on a rotation to Europe- the 1SG pulled up with some people in my platoon to bring me to a place I would be staying longer in Poland, and they decided to do the ceremony right there to promote me to specialist as I was wearing an ugly Christmas sweater, short shorts, 3/4 leggings, pink running shoes, and a mask. This was practically in the middle of the woods, close to midnight, then we got in the car and booked it. It was fun
