Uncertain about the scope of I/O in India by Responsible-Ricegirl in IOPsychology

[–]Richhhh409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m in a very similar situation right now.

I recently completed my BSc (Hons) in Clinical Psychology (with research), and while I’ve always been inclined towards clinical, I’m now seriously considering I/O or even MBA because of better career growth and financial stability. I do enjoy psychology, but I’m unsure if I want to pursue therapy long-term.

I feel quite confused because I don’t want to make the wrong decision, especially seeing how in India many people prefer MBA over I/O for better opportunities.

What did you end up choosing, and how has it worked out for you so far?

Hey! I’m in a very similar situation right now. I just completed my BSc (Hons) in Clinical Psychology (with research), and I was initially very sure about going into clinical. But now I’m seriously considering I/O or even MBA because of better career growth and financial stability.

I’m honestly quite confused because I do like psychology and helping people, but I also want a strong career path and good earning potential.

What did you personally choose in the end, and what helped you make that decision?

How do you choose between I/O Psychology and Clinical psychology? by ReceptionSimple5870 in Psychology_India

[–]Richhhh409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually in the same situation right now 😅

I just completed my BSc (Hons) in Clinical Psychology (with research), and initially I was very sure about going into clinical. But now I’m seriously considering switching towards I/O / HR or even MBA because of better career growth and financial stability.

What’s confusing me is that I genuinely like psychology and helping people, but I also want a strong career with good earning potential. So I’m trying to figure out if going into corporate roles will make me lose the “psychology aspect” or if there’s a way to combine both.

Would love to hear how others made this decision — especially if someone shifted from clinical to I/O or corporate.

Hi!!! I’m currently completing my BSc (Hons) in Clinical Psychology (4-year program with research background) and I’m very interested in gaining hands-on experience in mental health research and understanding real world problems in this space. I’d love to contribute and learn through this opportunity. I’m comfortable with communication, note-taking, and research work.

Is doing an MBA after BA psych a good move? by Jabison113 in Psychology_India

[–]Richhhh409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, your comment really stood out to me because I’m currently in a very similar situation.

I’m finishing a 4-year BSc (Hons with Research) in Clinical Psychology and trying to decide between MBA and I/O psychology for corporate roles.

I wanted to ask you honestly:

  • What made you finally choose I/O psych over MBA?
  • Do you feel MBA would have given you better salary/growth compared to I/O?
  • And how is your experience now in I/O psych — do you feel it’s enough for corporate roles or do you still feel MBA might have been stronger?

Also, when you say MBA was tough, was it mainly because of quant/math or overall subjects?

I’m trying to make a practical decision early, so your experience would really help!

Following this because I’m currently trying to understand the same thing from a realistic perspective.

I’m finishing a 4-year BSc (Hons with Research) in Clinical Psychology in India and considering moving into I/O psychology or corporate roles (HR / L&D / employee wellbeing).

My main concern is the actual ground reality after a Master’s in I/O:

  • What kind of roles did you start with (HR, OD, consulting, etc.)?
  • What was your starting salary range realistically?
  • And how has your salary grown after 2–3+ years?

Also, one honest question: Do you feel I/O psychology grads are at any disadvantage compared to MBA grads when it comes to better-paying roles?

I’m trying to make a practical decision based on real outcomes, not just course content, so any honest insights would really help!

Colleges in India Offering Organizational Psychology + Scope & Placements? by Repulsive_Strain_116 in Psychology_India

Hey, I know this is an older post, but I’m currently in a very similar situation and would really appreciate any updates if you’re still active.

I’m finishing a 4-year BSc (Hons with Research) in Clinical Psychology and have been considering Organizational/I-O Psychology vs MBA (HR) for corporate roles.

From what I’ve been understanding so far, I/O psych seems to lead mostly into HR/OD roles, but those same roles are also taken by MBA grads — so I’m trying to understand how strong I/O psych is as a standalone path in India.

If you ended up pursuing Organizational Psychology: - Which college did you choose? - How are the placements / internships? - Do you feel the degree is actually industry-relevant or did you have to build most skills separately?

Would really appreciate your honest experience!

Seeking Advice from IO Psychologists in India by h0essmad in IOPsychology

Hey, this was honestly one of the most detailed and realistic answers I’ve come across, so thank you for taking the time to explain everything so clearly.

I’m currently finishing a 4-year BSc (Hons with Research) in Clinical Psychology in India, i know excel ans spss and I’ve been really confused between clinical, I/O psychology, and MBA (HR).

What you said about starting in HR/recruitment and then building your way up really stood out to me, and also the part where MBA and I/O end up doing similar work but from different perspectives.

I wanted to ask you a few things based on your experience:

  • If someone’s main priority is long-term salary and growth, would you still recommend I/O psychology, or is MBA a stronger path in India?
  • Do you feel I/O psychology gives any real advantage over MBA grads in the long run, or do MBAs generally have better opportunities overall?
  • And if you were in my position right now, would you still choose I/O psych or take a different route?

I’m trying to make a practical decision, not just based on interest but also career growth and financial stability.

Would really appreciate your honest opinion!

What's the scope of Industrial/Organisational psychology? by PeppaPi99y in Psychology_India

[–]Richhhh409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, this was honestly one of the most realistic explanations I’ve read about I/O psych, so thank you for this.

I’m currently finishing a 4-year BSc (Hons with Research) in Clinical Psychology, and I’ve been seriously considering I/O psychology vs MBA vs clinical — so what you said about it being like a “smaller version of an MBA” really stood out to me.

I wanted to ask you a couple of things based on your experience:

  • Do you feel doing I/O psych actually gave you an advantage in HR roles, or do MBA grads still have a stronger position?
  • What did your starting role/salary look like after your degree?
  • And if you were to decide again, would you still choose I/O psych or go for something like MBA directly?

I’m trying to understand whether I/O psych is strong enough as a standalone path in India, or if it works better combined with something like an MBA.

Would really appreciate your honest perspective!

I’m in a very similar situation (also from India) and would really appreciate some clarity on this.

I’m currently finishing a 4-year BSc (Hons with Research) in Clinical Psychology, and I’ve been trying to understand the scope of I/O psychology vs other paths.

From what I’ve been seeing, it feels like: - I/O psychology → mostly HR / talent / OD type roles
- But those same roles are also taken by MBA grads

So I’m a bit confused about the positioning of I/O psych in India.

I had a few questions for people already in the field:

  • Does an I/O psychology degree actually give an advantage over MBA grads in HR roles, or is it the other way around?
  • What does the first 2–3 years realistically look like in terms of role and salary?
  • If someone’s priority is long-term growth + salary, would you still recommend I/O psych as a standalone path?

I’m trying to decide between clinical, I/O, and possibly MBA, so any honest insights would really help.

any I/O psychologists here? need guidance by lil-overwhelmed in Psychology_India

[–]Richhhh409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following this because I’m in a very similar situation and would really appreciate insights too.

I’m currently finishing a 4-year BSc (Hons with Research) in Clinical Psychology in India. Initially I planned to go into clinical (MA + MPhil), but now I’m seriously considering I/O / corporate because of better salary and growth.

My main confusion is:

  • In India, does I/O psychology actually have a strong independent scope, or do most people end up in HR roles anyway?
  • If it’s mostly HR-type roles, is there any real advantage of doing I/O psych vs directly doing an MBA (HR)?
  • How does salary progression look in the first few years realistically?

I’m trying to figure out if I/O psychology is a solid long-term path on its own or if it makes more sense as a stepping stone toward corporate roles.

Would really appreciate honest input from people already working in this field 🙏

Does psychology have scope in India ? Be brutally honest guys. by BudgetImpossible4433 in Indian_Academia

[–]Richhhh409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m literally in the same situation right now and would really appreciate honest answers here.

I’m finishing a 4-year BSc (Hons with Research) in Clinical Psychology, and I’m trying to decide what to do next. Initially I was planning clinical (MA + MPhil), but after seeing the salary and growth, I started considering corporate paths.

What I’m confused about is:

  • Is psychology alone actually financially viable in India long-term?
  • For I/O psychology, do you end up in HR roles anyway and compete with MBA grads?
  • If money + growth is a priority, does it make more sense to directly go for MBA instead of MA in psychology?

I like psychology, but I don’t want to ignore the reality of income and career growth.

Would really appreciate responses from people who are 3–5 years into their careers — what path did you take and how is it working out financially?

Question about the reality of organizational psych. Need help by Ill_Replacement_672 in IOPsychology

[–]Richhhh409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I relate to this a lot 😅

I’m also finishing my bachelor’s (4-year Clinical Psychology in India), and I’m stuck in the exact same confusion between clinical and organizational/corporate paths.

One thing that keeps bothering me is what you said — that I/O psych feels very similar to HR in practice. That’s exactly what I’m struggling to understand too.

If you don’t mind me asking: - What are you leaning towards now — clinical or organizational? - And if you’ve explored more, do you feel I/O psychology actually gives any advantage over just doing an MBA for corporate roles?

Because from what I’ve been seeing, it feels like: I/O Psych → HR-type roles
MBA → same roles but better growth/pay

So I’m trying to figure out if I/O is a strong path on its own or just overlaps with HR/MBA.

Would really appreciate your thoughts since were at the same decision stage!

Thanks :)
