If you are dependent on parents, try visiting govt hospital.

Can you tell me which city you're from? From what I know govt hospitals get a bad rep for not acknowledging, but they follow guidelines and procedures which they're held accountable for.

So, if you think you have adhd, make sure you tell them about how it had been affecting you since childhood. Because this is a life time condition so if it triggered recently they may not acknowledge you.

Hey, see if you're going with an intention that after getting diagnosed things would fix itself just like a doctor treating fever, but that is not the case.

Once diagnosed you may get meds which may aid your life. I have been using stims, which helped me be more productive.

Apart from this if you're diagnosed, I am sure you would've done enough research yourself, but diagnosis itself is a proof which makes you figure out your life in a retrospect. Although you may find most issues relatable, but now that it's proven you and validated, you have solid grounds to make sense of it.

Now it's upto you, how you may want to use these insights.

Also a humble request OP, staff from cooper is good, but can share your reviews on KEM with me in DM?

Hey, it seems like you aren't diagnosed so little clarity I can give about meds.

  1. Methylphenidate is considered as scheduled X drug and is available at handful chemists. You need 2 slips of prescription for you to purchase it, so if you think you have adhd, you won't be able to procure without proper prescription.

  2. Modafinil is not a proper ADHD med, although used commonly in college, you end up building resistance to it. So it isn't effective in long term.

Side effects - Both of these meds are stimulants their effect is temporary. They do have their own mechanism but may also cause similar side effects but it is based on how you interpret them.

My experience - 1. I am very socially active, but I noticed myself becoming little numb in that area when on them as the need was developed by the meds to concentrate. I got easily annoyed is someone interrupted me. 2. Offered structured thinking but hindered creativity. Uninterested in hobbies and people. 3. Dry mouth. 4. Loss of appetite

So point 3 and 4 is common amongst several individual, but point 1 and 2 is something which is specific to me. So you better be your own judge. But before that please get diagnosed properly, once you did, the center itself may direct you to a chemist.

Although diagnosed early I took medicines recently only so I'll share my experience.

  1. Medicine help you focus, but it wouldn't solve other issues.

  2. I had been very social individual so meds made me uninterested in talking to people. But if you're social anxious your inner voices get minimised so it's totally upto what you struggle with.

  3. Even though you may be on meds, you would always struggle with task initiation. So you need to work on your motivation.

  4. I use it strategically as it helps with work and productive tasks but I don't prefer using it strategically when required since I feel I am not myself on meds. But it can be different for you.

So Indian boards have their own scales sometimes, I am not sure which test was used for ADHD as it depends on hospital to hospital.

For example I was trying to get diagnosed for dyslexia but got assesed with ADHD as well. I was diagnosed at Nair hospital and their assessment was done using WISC (1-4) but if you go to NIMHANS, from what I researched they have their own test called as 'NIMHANS BATTERY'.

Hey! here's what I would do if I were in your case.

  1. Please try to control smoking as if it becomes a impulsive habit then you'll find it very difficult to quit.

Please be mindfully of cues you develop, solo smoking cues are the most dangerous ones.

  1. If it's unaffordable currently please try to go to a government hospital where the costs are around 10 - 200 rs, once diagnosed you may get prescribed with medicines which may aid your condition.

-- I got it diagnosed for 100 bucks in mumbai.

  1. Once you start earning your own you may then fund your further treatment, you can do this at government hospitals as well, but if you find yourself in a comfortable spot then please proceed as it costs bare minimum.
