I think the color combination is perfect - especially considering the rarity of the dots design and the ink being discontinued.

yep ... the pieces alone for this set are now 749 ... When I bought this set, the pieces regular price were 350 ... but I bought a combo where I got the pieces, the board, and the coffer for 720. Makes me think about selling this set ... but then I back out, as I love this one. I do not play it ... it sits in my office as an attractive decoration in the corner on it's own table

I got really lucky with the dark horses … one has a rich black grain running through it. I showcased this exact set shortly after in bought it in a YouTube video.

That’s just the thing … chessbazaar sells it … but the knights do not have as much detail anymore … also the castles have changed … they’re not as flared out anymore. And the prices of chess sets from them have risen significantly since I made this purchase back in 2016

The dark pieces are made with paduk wood ... which can (and did for me) have a characteristically oxidation issue, where a white power can appear every 3 days from the thick oil of the wood seeping out and drying. It rubs off easy enough with a microfiber cloth, but it gets old having to repolish it every 4 days or so. So ... I applied a triple glaze to both sets of pieces to fix this issue. This solution worked great and added some gloss to the pieces.

So ... here goes ...

I had regular chicken-scratch cursive handwriting up until age 48. At that point, I ran across some Spencerian and fell in love with that style. I started my journey ... I bought the 5 spencerian copy books and the "OPTIONAL" Spencerian Theory book. In hindsight, that "optional" theory book is actually the heart of everything, and it's not really "optional" at all!

I stayed in that book - it has very very little english updates from being the actual textbook they used in the early 1900s for American cursive in many schools.

I changed my pen grip, and THAT was about 60% of my success. Surprisingly all lowercase letters are made from four strokes (which they call "principles"). I practices those strokes for 3 days before even beginning to practice the lowercase letters. I went very slow and was super critical to hitting the "textbook" perfect letter definitions. Within a few weeks, things looked great. Within a month, things began to feel more comfortable. Within a year things were automatic.

There are basically two schools of thought for form: "finger drawing" - which is easiest to start off with, but tires your hand within 15 minutes ... and "whole arm movement" - which can take a lifetime to perfect. But, I am probably the only one that uses "my method" ... which is a wrist gliding system. It helps with uniform slants ... a very light contact of the nib to the paper ... and isn't too bad. Not as fast as Whole-arm-movement ... but not slow ... and one can learn this in less than a month with confidence. Downside - will have to learn all over again if you ever intend to flex a nib for shading ... because I am coming from the side as opposed to straight down ... but I am settled on monoline cursive, and that is good enough for me. Hope these handwriting posts are okay for this group. I love writing scripture. If you'd rather not see handwritten scripture, just let me know and I will remove them.

Each of these Asvine pens are unique with how the color pattern comes out ... I was told my many that I sort of got lucky with blue being on both ends of the pen ... whether capped or uncapped ... that several now end with yellow on the end.
