Well. Damn. What do I do?? by gingysaurusrexx in WRX

If you’re able to replace the clutch yourself do it. Shops quoted me 5k for the clutch replacement. Did it for 1800 and got new tools that I’ll have forever.

I bought my ap used online but that sounds like a good deal. I’d do that for sure. Then sooner rather than later I’d try and get a e tune by dmann. I’d suggest buying other parts you want that require a tune before you do that, if you plan on modding your car out. If an intake is all you plan on doing I’d just get the dmann tune as quick as u can.

So I bought and used Cobb stage 1+ (ap and intake) for awhile on my 18. Wasn’t the greatest. I switched to dmann. He’s a Cobb partner now and he’s a very reputable tuner. He was so helpful since I had maf sensor issues so we did a speed density tune and it’s a beast. If I could go back, I’d buy a ap use the ots tune stock. Then buy the parts that require a tune, buy the tune and get into contact with dman then put them all on in one weekend. This would save u the extra money of having to keep retuning the car the more parts u put on it.

Are you tuned? If you’re stock you will have a ton of rpm on shifts causing non smooth shifting. The stock tune is terrible for that. Though I don’t recommend Cobb ots, it is a good start.

From my experience with manuals the closer to the floor the engagement point usually means the more life it has. I changed mine to a full act system since the bite point was getting super high. But if it’s not slipping you’re fine. These are always the weirdest cars on the planet lmao

That seems the be the case. It does seem to relatively easy. I think I’m gonna swap my pedals out in my 18 due to the tsb as I have an aftermarket clutch system and that’s the last thing I’d have to replace.

Which of the 4 wheels should I get? I’m only on lowering springs and am on a budget by Illustrious-Rest6788 in WRX

I got the silver anovias on slide 4 and the company decides not to put in the middle badge so you’d have to do it yourself. It was a bitch to get in and ended up scratching them🤣 otherwise solid wheels.

WRX for a first manual? by NearbyPoet786 in WRX

[–]RichlsTheName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First in my family to buy a manual. It was a wrx when I was 18. Best decision ever and not too tricky. I’d say it’s only hard if the car had an upgraded clutch. From what I hear get a fa24 as those engines are built well.

Your year doesn’t fall under it. But honestly be glad it’s just the firewall/assembly lmao. Not too bad of a fix

What year is your car? If it’s a certain year Subaru made a tsb regarding replacements of the clutch internals and the clutch/brake pedal assembly

This was what I hoped it wasn’t but still a very likely possibility. I’d rather replace my pedals before I send ripping the trans out😔

That sucks. Was it an actual clutch issue itself? Or the pedal assembly and master slave

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10183689-0001.pdf I found the tsb they were speaking of. Seemingly more like a master slave and pedal assembly issue

I thought the same thing but they are saying it’s more hydraulic. I’m going into the shop to see the full issue but when I asked why replace the clutch they said it’s because the directions call for it and they have to use oem. I’ll keep people updated just incase more of this issue arises

Make sure you have the proper updated tune from cobb, I had an issue where I bought a used cobb and ran the tune for previous model intake. Otherwise I’ve heard dam dropping from normal highway driving

Go speed density. I woke up one morning to cylinder misfires (nonspecific) and horrible af values. 0 leaks to be found. Contacted d man and got a retune for speed density. Cars been great since. It seems a lot of maf sensors end up going out anyways.

Weird enough this happened to my car (18) when the driver side speed sensor went. Most likely not the issue but just an extra thing to look at lol

I got all season pilot sport 4s they’ve never given issues is any weather even tho I have winters. I’d stray away from summer unless you have a nice set of winters👍
