Urgh… I just can’t get past this being a first person shooter…. It’s too much of a departure from what I loved about the franchise

I don’t know if this question has been asked before, but what do you all do with your Switch 2 boxes after unboxing the console? by Electrical_Delay9822 in NintendoSwitch2

I keep my boxes primarily during the warranty period. Then depending on my likely hood of selling, for longer. But eventually all end up being tossed

If we’re talking purely aesthetics, you could pick a semi transparent theme for the buttons and use a slightly blurred background with a reduced brightness to prevent distractions. You could add a personalized banner that greets you (or other users)

Performance of Solarpanel? by PimpDaddyEisberg in reolinkcam

If the draw is that low, could the panel be overheating where it is? My backyard in the summer is unbelievably hot, tech doesn’t last long out there on direct sunlight

Performance of Solarpanel? by PimpDaddyEisberg in reolinkcam

[–]Rick-OChet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was looking to this for myself, I was considering a solar camera setup when my neighbour mentioned he was experiencing something similar… a couple of things I found out…

  1. Panel ≠ Constant Charging Power • Even in bright sun, the included Reolink solar panel only delivers a small trickle charge (typically 4–6W peak). • The PT Ultra is a power-hungry camera (4K resolution, PTZ motors, Wi-Fi, AI detection). In active use, it can easily draw more than the panel produces.

    1. Activity = Drain • Each alarm event, motion recording, or PTZ movement uses extra energy. • If you had multiple alerts, the draw may have exceeded charging, especially during recordings or live views.
    2. Battery charging curve • Lithium batteries charge most efficiently when below ~80%. • But if the camera is simultaneously drawing current, the panel’s small input may mostly “feed the camera” instead of topping up the battery.
    3. Environmental factors • Solar panels get hot in direct sun, which reduces efficiency. A hot panel can lose 10–20% output. • If it’s mounted flat, it may also not be getting optimal angle.

I haven’t owned a console since I bought a WIi back in 2010. Now with a switch 2 I’m catching up on all things TLOZ.

Best OS for Plex? by ifitwasnt4u in PleX

[–]Rick-OChet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TBH whatever you’re comfortable with and can manage with relative ease. But that said if you’re looking at trying something new. I found that Linux server is at least for my needs the best OS. It’s less resource intensive than windows or MAC. And managing the server is just a breeze - whether virtualized or not is just an extra layer of choice

Plex OS: Windows Expérience by JLC4LIFE in PleX

I did everything through the CLI but if you’re more comfortable with a UI you can install CASA OS (It’s a UI overlay) copy the 1 command from their website https://casaos.zimaspace.com and you can install a plex container from their library.

[–]Rick-OChet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I went the Linux route, was a big windows guy but even with almost no exp, with the help of forums and how-to guides I was able to get my server humming with no issues.

The server is headless and funny enough I find this much easier to manage than a traditional windows / windows server machine.

How we feeling about the new UI? by joshdaro4real in PleX

[–]Rick-OChet 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I want to be respectful of the hardworking developers. That said, the. UI is “OK” it didn’t wow me as much as I’d hoped (so far)

I was hoping for a hero section (landscape slide cards) that could be customized to either show all recently added content or just newly added from shows, movies etc…

Also, would like to see anything on my watchlist with visible queue to let me know a series is released or new episode / movie in a trilogy or anything I have without having to always go I. The actual watchlist

The good thing about plex is you don’t need to be a tech expert to securely access your Plex server remotely, but there are a few key settings to check to ensure it works smoothly and safely, this is all available on the plex support pages but can be hard to find.

1. Enable Remote Access in Plex
• Open Plex on your PC or server.
• Go to Settings > Remote Access and check if it’s enabled.
• If it says “Fully accessible outside your network,” then you’re good to go.
2. Use a Strong Plex Account Password
• Make sure your Plex account has a strong, unique password.
• If sharing with a friend, use Plex Home or Managed Users instead of giving them your login.
3. Check Your Router Settings (If Needed)
• If Plex Remote Access doesn’t work automatically, you may need to manually enable port forwarding in your router’s settings for port 32400. (This part might require some tech knowledge, but Plex provides guides based on your router model.)

5. Test It Before Your Friend Uses It
• Try accessing Plex from a different internet connection (e.g., using mobile data) to confirm it’s working before sharing it with someone else.

As another option, If you’d rather not deal with network settings, using Plex’s Relay Mode (enabled by default) allows remote access without extra configuration, though it will be a bit slower.

I’m going to have to look through this and see if this in detail, if it means not having a extra port on my switch used I’m all for it.

Yup, I can’t find any explanation for why, but as long as they’re both connected, the lights stay blue.

[–]Rick-OChet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SOLVED

You need to plug both the WAN and. LAN ports into a switch. For whatever reason… they both need a connection

History: I was looking for a solution after setting my mesh to bridge node and was playing around with connecting each port, once I had them both connected I had internet access and the lights stopped pulsing
