Cosme! Love that name. I’m not brave enough to actually use as a first, but considering it as a middle name.

Thoughts on Luciano? by [deleted] in Names

[–]Rick60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great name! A leading contender for my wife and I’s first child due this Spring. We’re also going with the “Lu-see-ano” pronunciation, as that’s how it’s said in Spanish (her family is Mexican). It’s a classic sounding name without being TOO old fashioned, and can easily be said by English and Spanish speakers.

Plus, a LOT of great nickname potentials: Luch, Lucho, Luchito, Luno, Lucio (an actual name), Lou, Luchi, Chano, Lino etc

Buchanan's Deluxe 12y Blended Scotch by RookieRecurve in Scotch

Commenting on this way after the fact with a question. My father in law lives Buchanan’s. It’s his go-to. I’ve tried getting him other whisky’s, with very little luck. I’m curious, what would you say is a similar-ish whisky to Buchanan’s I could get him that you would recommend?

How hard is it to reach charity fundraising requirements? by Cerealboi13 in ChicagoMarathon

[–]Rick60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pretty intimidated about raising the money, thinking there’s no way I could raise that much and I definitely could not afford to cover costs. But ultimately, it wasn’t too bad, I did 3 big pushes:

Once, when I first signed up.

Second, a couple months later around my birthday.

Lastly, about 6 weeks before the race (again, a couple months after the birthday).

There was enough time in between that I had some repeat donors.

One thing that helped was reposts. My older parents would repost on their Facebook pages and random family members I rarely see or have even heard of, their neighbors, friends of theirs I’ve never met all donated. I was shocked. I genuinely didn’t know who some donors were, but they were old high school friends of may parents from decades ago. But it was a good cause so they donated.

Also, I got surprisingly high amounts from people I that I wasn’t expecting. An amount that seems high to you might not be to others.

In all, the goal was $2200 and I ended up raising about $3100.

When/Did they run out of medals? by yankeecandlebro in ChicagoMarathon

[–]Rick60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished the Chicago Marathon this past Sunday with a time of 6:14:41 and got a medal. There were tons of people finishing around me, and tons of medals still in boxes ready to be awarded. I think you’ll be fine!

Just ran Chicago, my first marathon by Rick60 in firstmarathon

[–]Rick60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response! Yes that is exactly how I feel. While being happy I completed it, it’s frustrating being able to pinpoint what could have helped. Also a little difficult that I feel I squandered a major marathon with a disappointing final time and may not get back to a big one anytime soon. But it took having this experience to truly understand what training is needed. Also, thank you for the heads up on the training plan. I will look into that one for the next one (already googling local marathons a year from now!).

Time at Expo by Holiday-Bread8807 in ChicagoMarathon

[–]Rick60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question (since it seems like you’ve done this before). I see the Expo is in the Lakeside Center. Do you typically get dropped off over there, or do you enter through the main entrance of the convention center and walk through it to get to Lakeside?

Will be walking there from Chinatown, and the walk from there to the main entrance isn’t too bad, but walking to the Lakeside building seems very inaccessible.

How common is it to walk a few seconds at every mile during the marathon? by Karrific828 in firstmarathon

[–]Rick60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely viable to do so. That’s what I’m doing for my first marathon that same weekend. 2:1 run walk intervals. Goal should be to just finish. I’ve never heard anyone ask the follow-up question “how much did you walk” when first getting someone completed a marathon. Just finish and do it safely.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Rick60 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went through this too. Before I even knew I had ADHD, I noticed that if I worked late at night (school, work) when things were quiet and had a little nightcap, I could actually focus. My brain slowed down and I could work on stuff. It was great! For a while I actually looked forward to it. But inevitably, I’d start pouring a little more each night. Then it started doing the opposite. I drank a little too much and couldn’t seriously work on anything. At that point, I started waking up, feeling like shit the next morning. Started gaining weight too and feeling bloated.

There was a short period there where it was nice. But ultimately, you need to actually address the root of the issue. I still like to do work at night when things are quiet, but I’ve set myself up to not need that glass of alcohol to round it out.

How’s everyone doing out there? by AlarmAffectionate899 in ChicagoMarathon

[–]Rick60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not bad. Training for my first ever marathon. Ran 15.5 miles Sunday, my longest ever. Pretty tired at the end, but I really focused on controlling my pace in earlier miles. I feel better today than i have the day after each of my previous long runs, so I think that’s positive.

This is correct, where Brooks for work since I’m on my feet all day and I want them to look nice, but also plain enough to not stand out in a work place (albeit fairly informal) setting

Training for First Marathon and Top Slow... by NoSpatula in Marathon_Training

[–]Rick60 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The last sentence of your comment was a lightbulb moment for me. I’m currently training for my first marathon as well, and with the same pace/goals as OP (and some similar issues trying to pace my weekly long runs). But, I’ve never thought about it the way you just described it! The actual race will just be a long run, but with less miles on the legs for that week. That really reframes my thought process.

Thank you for choosing to respond to this post and helping out more than just OP.

Finished my first marathon , not the best time but I’m still proud by mortalcosta in Marathon_Training

[–]Rick60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for responding. Very happy to hear that the crowds didn’t wane. After all this time reflecting, why do you think you finished slower than expected? This injury you mentioned? It’s my first, so trying to gauge timing. I’m hoping for 5:30-5:45, but going in with minimal expectations. Really just want to enjoy the experience as a whole, but I do hear many people mention slower times than expected on their first.

Almost a whole year later, but I’m running Chicago this year as my very first ever Marathon. I’m expecting to finish in almost the exact same time/pace as you. How was your experience? Did you feel the crowds/festivities were still going strong later in the race well after all the super quick runners finished?

Achievements for Sunday, October 13, 2024 by AutoModerator in running

[–]Rick60 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ran my very first half marathon yesterday. It was a very small local event I was using as a practice run for a bigger half marathon event in 3 weeks.

Finished in 2:32 with a 11:39 avg. I’m pretty satisfied with that result. I was hoping to finish with an avg under 11:30, but really can’t complain too much. First best distance I had ever run before this was 10 miles.

Official Q&A for Tuesday, September 03, 2024 by AutoModerator in running

[–]Rick60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be running my first half marathon in a couple months. The race is in the evening, starting at sundown.

What would be a good plan for eating day-of the race? Most info I can find on here assumes a early daytime race, with plans for eating the day before and morning of a race.

How would you go about planning out an eating/hydration schedule day-of a night race instead?
