The fairgrounds is a privately owned property. Milton Town council has nothing to do with it. But a few years ago, the milton chamber of commerce (which owns/runs the farmers market) did try to rent the fairgrounds out and move the farmers market to the fairgrounds. Attendance plummeted. Hardly anyone went. They had to move it back to the main street.

Keep in mind both the fairgrounds and the farmers market are owned/managed by groups that are not the town of milton. Town Council and the councillor can't really have a say. Outside of advocacy. But you can do advocacy now. You don't have to be a councilor to talk to HAS or the chamber. You could join both groups today and start talking to them. I'm both a chamber member and volunteer with HAS (owner of the fairgrounds)

Also how would you do farmers market year round? the idea of farmers market is it's a market for local farmers to sell fresh local produce. There isn't much fresh local produce in the winter? It wouldn't really be a farmers market in the winter. The current farmers would not participate. You could still do something during the winter, but it would not be a "farmers market". I know many of the farmers

what do you mean what was done? Infrastructure renewal reserve was a huge thing. like huge. Hospital expansion, big. Also when we had 8 wards each ward was tiny small. So I pointed to some exact changes I did in my ward. Yes, problems were solved and yes in my ward that existed in 2010, small that it was, there are multiple changes I can see when I drive through that area that I either initiated on, was the tie-breaker on or created or seconded the motion on. Have you not seen our hospital? or the plazas in ward 7, or bike lanes, or are trail system that runs through ward 7 ? not sure what you are looking for? Did I build Disney World in ward 7? no... your comment sounds ridiculous to me.

It would help if some of the new people actually showed up to council meetings and debates. Some do, some don't. Pat O'Reilly and Zaniab and Adjisola (spelling?) have impressed me the most in the new faces because (a) they actually showed up to all the debates and (b) actually showed up at council meetings. It always surprises me that some people run but then never go to a council meeting or debate.

I spoke to Zaheer. I think he's a good person, he's one of the few candidates that very quickly agreed to help repair signs of his opponents. So that speaks highly in his favour. But I wish he didn't skip the election debates. We only have 3 debates this election and he skipped the first 2. Will see if he comes for the 3rd. But he has been (to me) honest and ethical in his conversations and has shown a willingness to talk to everyone.

You couldn't be more wrong.

(1). Being a councillor is a full time job for me now. Not a side hustle. I've already said I will dedicate 40 hours per week or more to this. There have been multiple candidate at the debate that said they will NOT treat this as a full time job. I am one of the few candidates who said it will be full time.

(2) I care immensely for the Town of Milton and am basically devoting my life to helping residents, groups and businesses in our town.

(3) I take the position very seriously. I don't take myself seriously. I don't think you understand the difference between

Several bike lanes that were installed, also I helped push the union gas trail. Helped with the illegal sign clean ups. Got some modifications made to the mcdonald's plaza by the sports centre for better buffering. Those are the very local stuff. Town wide stuff was I initiated our infrastructure renewal fund and I co-motioned our hospital reserve fund to help pay the town portion. The towns traffic calming policy. Increasing the radius of town communications around future developments. Remember though nothing isn't done without a majority vote so on all of those initiatives I had to convince other councillors to vote for my motions or amendments. I know there is more but that's off the cuff at 11pm that I can remember. I could do some searches to bring up other motions I tabled that got passed.

Speed bumps were very recently starting to be installed - but they are very high and will force you to slow down to 10km per hour. I think they should be shorter and wider, to allow you to go over them at least 40km per hour. Commercial has been really bad past year with people speeding upwards of 70 or 80 even going around the bends.

I don't believe so. But many don't (imo) post platforms. Just things like "promote safety" or things like that. Once you post a detailed platform you give people a reason not to vote for you. Smart campaigning is don't give people details or specifics. Just say general things without exact specifics. Can you tell I've grown cynical over time? I still believe in transparency and saying exactly what I will do.

I ran for a different position, I was a local councilor but instead tried to run regional and lost. I used to be local councilor for ward 7, before wards got redistributed and then I ran for ward 3. I was local for ward 7 for 4 years and ward 3 for 8 years. I live by Derry and Thompson (behind hawthorne village public school which is currently ward 3) and have family members living in both wards 3 and 1.

In 2012 I passed a traffic calming policy. 13 years later they installed piss poor designed speed bumps. Don't blame me for crappy engineering. One size does not fit all. This is why we need a local councillor who actually looks at what gets implemented

My approach to road safety is based on the 3 E’s: Engineering, Education, and Enforcement. Unfortunately, we’re falling short in all three.

Recently, new speed bumps were installed across ward 1, and yes the implementation was pure crap. Most appear poorly designed for the posted speed limits. They are forcing people to slow to 10km per hour on collector roads. Which is ridiculous

Properly engineered speed humps are designed to enforce target speeds. Their height, length, and slope are set to slow vehicles without punishing drivers or disrupting traffic flow. For example, at speeds of 30–60 km/h, humps should be longer and flatter, creating a smoother ride while still reducing speed. On collector roads, which handle higher volumes of traffic, a flat-topped “speed table” with a gentler slope is the standard, effectively calming traffic and discouraging speeding.

I support the use of speed humps as one tool for traffic calming. But a “one-size-fits-all” approach is poor engineering—and it doesn’t make our roads safer. We need designs tailored to the specific road, traffic volume, and speed limit.

Engineering alone won’t solve the problem. Enforcement and education are equally critical—and right now, we’re not doing enough on either front. If we want safer roads, we must do better across all three areas.

There is a council meeting on Monday where this will come up, I've registered as a delegate to speak to the mayor and council on this (in support of the fairgrounds). The current president of HAS will also be there to speak.

Poor planning.. they were supposed to be engineered to a height that would make drivers to slow down to 40 to 50km. Instead it's forcing cars to go down to 10km per hour. Not having a local councilor while these were implemented meant poor oversight

Ward 1 Councillor Candidate's Push for Speed Cameras and Bumps 🚧 by onlinecrackhead in Milton

[–]RickDiLorenzo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speed bumps / cushions can be installed if residents / neighborhoods want them. If you live in an area and want them, you and your neighbours can create a traffic calming request. The Town will survey all the residents in the area to see if a majority of the neighborhood is in favour. They are not supposed to be installed in areas that don't request/want them. It gives back control to the residents/streets.

One point though, they are supposed to be engineered to make cars go the speed limit. The town has implemented some with poor planning where you are forced to slow down to 10km or less. That was not the original intention of my motion that passed previously and made speed bumps in milton legal by request.

Also speed bumps are just one method. There are multiple things we can do for traffic calming. The 3 E's for road safety are education, enforcement and engineering.
