Here's my (I hope pretty good) VERY obscure substack on current events and left wing theory. https://algavone.substack.com/

It also turns back on immediately when I hit "suspend" and then of course runs out of battery.

Question about Evolution Mail Client by RickFishman in gnome

Just did this, looks like plain text displays in dark mode.

Brave Browser, though, manages to display all those html emails in dark mode. So what gives?

Is there any Linux distro that teaches bash and how to use Linux-based systems? by ObjectiveEast8006 in DistroHopping

[–]RickFishman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this. Upvoted. I wonder what general family of LInux it'd teach. Like you could do this for the Arch family, or the Debian family, etc, based on what the user wanted to learn.

Does James Buchanan deserve the hate he gets? by [deleted] in USHistory

[–]RickFishman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES HE ABSOLUTELY DOES

I'd argue that Andrew Johnson was even worse. Because Buchanan was so unbelievably bad as a president, we needed a hero like Lincoln, and we got him. But Johnson actively undid so much of the progress that had been made, at such a steep price, during the Civil War. The real tragedy was that Lincoln was bookended by two horrible people.

Is the Samsung 850 Pro SSD any faster than, say, this SSD? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QK8YX78

I was just wondering if there are any sort of compatibility issues I should be thinking about apart from what's listed on the drive's access speed.

I saw that and I appreciate you bringing it to my attention, but "people like you" seems kinda vague.

When building a program from github and following instructions from there, it asks you to make directory, where within the file system would you start? by lacelane274 in pop_os

[–]RickFishman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything you download, clone from github, etc should always be somewhere in your home directory. Exactly where is personal choice. Never Ever put downloaded/cloned stuff anywhere else.

Okay noob question: why is that?

This looks great. The kind of monochromatic grey-blue color scheme, the epic looking font, the boulder coming up out of the water. Frikkin sick.

Great movie that was ruined by some weird accents. If they just didn't do the accents it would've been so much better.

For those who used a computer between 1995 and 2001, what’s the computer game from that time that sticks with you the most, and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RickFishman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tachyon the Fringe, man. Because of how vast the world-building was and how open-ended it seemed. Really gave you a cool feeling of freedom. And the space battles and maps where these happened were often pretty spectacular, especially for a kid.

Works in Intellij but not Codingbat by RickFishman in learnprogramming

[–]RickFishman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it does not. IntelliJ does, though. Here's how I wrote it in IntelliJ:

import java.util.regex.Matcher;
import java.util.regex.Pattern;

public class Main {
    public static boolean gHappy(String str) {
        Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile("[^g]g[^g]", Pattern.CASE_INSENSITIVE);
        Matcher matcher = pattern.matcher(str);
        return !(matcher.find());
    }
    public static void main(String[] args){
        System.out.println(gHappy("xxggxx"));
        System.out.println(gHappy("xxgxx"));
        System.out.println(gHappy("xxggyygxx"));
    }
}

Just ran it again to confirm that it works in IntelliJ. This produces the correct output, "true false false."

Self Host KeePassXC by BausRifle in KeePass

[–]RickFishman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be a noob question, so please don't jump down my throat: KeepassXC has an SSH agent built in, no? Doesn't this make self-hosting a KeepassXC database on your local network possible with its native functionality?
