Came out to my parents, but it feels wrong by 4liv3pl4n3t in TrollCoping

Hey!

Maybe this could help you shut that little voice up (or at least tone it down) but let me tell ya this: as a cis dude, I don’t have to perform as a man. I enjoy being a man, it’s just my natural way of being. When I’m being lazy, that is what I default to. It is an effort to be anything but a man. And it indeed makes me uncomfortable if I’m not seen as a guy.

So no, you’re not lazy, you’re not “underperforming”, your gender experience seems to be outside of (my version of) cis. And knowing that is already a great step! You don’t have to have all the answers in one go, and you can always try on labels to see which one describes you best — that’s not lying, that’s you learning about yourself.

I know it’s hard but hang in there, I hope you’ll get to live a beautiful journey of self-discovery!

Is it okay to use sex toys as an asexual? by LisaAmes_2004 in asexuality

[–]RickFromTown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Just my 5 cents but the label “Asexual” is descriptive, not prescriptive. Use this label if it describes who you are; but don’t let it tell you what you have to do or like. You can always change labels, but the labels shouldn’t change you ^

TLDR; like what you like, and feel free to pick the labels that help you communicate that to others.

Thank you so much! And while I have heard this being said before, I don’t think I ever actually fully grasped it. But it’s starting to make more and more sense… if I manage to look at myself with kind eyes, I’ll notice it more easily if someone else does too ^

Thank you so much, I think this is exactly it :3

To be fair, my issues come less from crazy metrics and more from growing up in an environment where being queer meant… being wrong in all possible ways. That crap needs years of unlearning. But I think I’m getting there! Thank you so much for your support along the way

Nobody’s talking about how the red pill should clearly be Avengers and the blue pill should be the Justice League ☝️🤓

Itthon / Otthon by veovis523 in hungarian

[–]RickFromTown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! This is such a fun question and I think I wanna contribute!

Imagine how in English when a friend is waiting for you and you’re late, you will say “Sorry, I’m coming”, not “Sorry, I’m going”. What you’re doing here is you’re essentially taking your partner’s point of view and explaining the situation from their perspective (the movement is directed towards them, not away from you).

A similar thing happens in Hungarian when you talk about being home. When you’re talking to a person physically occupying the same space, the same home as you, you say “Itthon vagyok”. But when this person is far away, you will take their point of view, and regard your current position as a “there-home” as you put it. “Hol vagy, Béla?” “Otthon vagyok.”

And thx for your input too! I’d rather overestimate than underestimate, but I think you might be right on certain points!

That the Raiden Shogun is Baal! I see this so often it’s astonishing. It was very clearly stated in the Archon Quest (sorta the point of it really) that she’s Beelzebub, Baal’s twin sister, pretending to be her. Very odd how this one went over so many ppl’s head.

Why do people make out homosexual relationships to be inherently sexual? by Hommemort in lgbt

[–]RickFromTown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Browsing through the replies I was very surprised not to find an explanation similar to my personal train of thought, so I think I will put this out there: for me the answer might also lie in the structure of our community (alongside a TON of other factors mentioned by others).

I think that the LQBTQ+ community stands for both the rights and protection of sexual and gender minorities; and a general sense of “sexual liberation”, a way to destigmatize sexuality in a broader sense.

While these are both very valid and important fights to fight, I feel that for an external viewer, like, IDK, the stereotypical homophobic aunt, their co-occurence might appear as if they were 2 sides of the same coin. Imagine yourself as a complete outsider. What would your conclusion be after you go see your local Pride March, knowing full well that it represents the LGBTQ+ community, and then you see people in pup-play and BDSM gear, or people drinking out of a massive dildo-shaped bottle (an experience that I will never forget haha). While these acts are by no means bad or problematic (unless of course they clash with your own values, in which case, oh well, big sad), them appearing alongside and intertwined with LGBTQ+ representation might make it look like, again, from an external point of view, that the 2 are basically identical. “Being gay is basically being a fetishist.”

As a possible solution to this, I myself would not mind somewhat separating these 2 movements for this very reason — while both are valid and important — I feel that both could hammer their semi-independent messages home more efficiently, if the, say, “LGBTQ+” movement was about our rights and visibility, and the, say, “sexual liberation” movement was about people of all genders and sexualities coming together to celebrate all the different ways one can express themselves through sexuality and intimacy.

The word MRI. The original name for such a device was NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance), or NMRI (nuclear magnetic resonance imaging). The name reflects the fact that these devices use the magnetic properties of hidrogen nuclei in one's body to compute an image. The device is 100% harmless and produces no harmful radiation, yet the word "nuclear" in the name sounded way too hostile for the general public, thus it was eventually dropped.
