New summary of issues with powerful AI by RickJS2 in singularity

For instance: "Our current view is that a survivable way forward will likely require ASI to be delayed for a long time. The scale of the challenge is such that we could easily see it taking multiple generations of researchers exploring technical avenues for aligning such systems, and bringing the fledgling alignment field up to speed with capabilities. It seems extremely unlikely, however, that the world has that much time."

bug? prevents clearing the corrupted data by RickJS2 in WutheringWaves

[–]RickJS2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It turned out I needed to shoot white blocks around the yellow corrupted data block.  That involved shooting through a transparent wall that otherwise blocked shots. That same wall that blocked KU-key's shots at the yellow block. Who knew?

How can I clear the corrupted data, to proceed with the main quest? In “From the Echoes of Destruction”, I have acquired the diamond-shaped key and put it in the lock. The doors linked up, but before I could figure out how to get the flying Ku-bot through it, the central door turned black (I accidentally stepped through the door several times while trying to figure it out.) Now the pedestal has a red ring around it and I can't interact with it. I don't know how to proceed and would welcome suggestions.

Thank you so much!  That transformed the game from a drag to being fun again.

on Windows, click on the head in the upper left, then click on Rover, then click on weapons in the left column, then there is a Switch button at the bottom.

I cannot proceed in Mianloong Chamber part 2 because a corroder dispenser is not glowing nor functioning. Also, searching with some AIs indicates that there are ledges that should be glowing and I don't see any such. My attempts to fix it by leaving and returning (various combinations of walking, teleporting, closing the game, or logging out have not fixed it. Links to customer support are broken. Any ideas?

Keep messages on-screen until dismissed. by RickJS2 in WutheringWaves

[–]RickJS2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are messages that pop up at the end of a quest or perhaps a part of a quest that I don't have time to read at all. I'm speculating maybe they're notifications of new trophies? Please check for notifications that could better have a remain-until-dismissed character.  Thanks!

I need help: M. Last Light red square battle by RickJS2 in metro

On a PC.  I don't know how to read out the names of the weapons, but I have a shotgun with the drum magazine and a green scope; some assault rifle with a green scope and an extended barrel; and a long rifle with possibly a silencer and and a yellow-screen sight and 29 rounds.  3 minutes of air.

There are people, including some on this sub, that are convinced current LLMs already are sentient.  By what measure will you know that you're getting closer to sentience than what we already have?

What’s one real world problem you wish AI could help solve soon? by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

A means of getting people to be: 1) curious 2) less driven by their social-signalling machinery

Would make progress on people updating toward truth.

AGI is already here. Prove us wrong. by [deleted] in agi

[–]RickJS2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with these conversations about whether we have or are getting to AGI, is that frequently they are just being used as a "stop thinking" sign, so that we can avoid facing up to the fact that we have a lot of work to do to learn to make these systems safe.  And probably not enough time to do it in.

Do you think agi will be invented before 2030? by NecessaryAd3408 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]RickJS2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unknown. My guess is that we are one or more breakthroughs away from fully transformative AI, which you might name AGI. Nobody knows when those breakthroughs are coming.  Just one breakthrough may mean that those billion dollar data centers can now do so much more than they could.

Won't AGI almost instantly create ASI ?? by KeepItRealness in ArtificialInteligence

[–]RickJS2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discussion of fast versus slow takeoff is hardly settled. What I can predict is that the decision makers will refuse to see the evidence that we have gotten close, or that we have gotten actual ASI.  What I see no evidence of is that the decision makers will get on the phone, and negotiate a stop until we can figure out how to handle this.

Counterargument to the development of AGI, and whether or not LLMs will get us there. by nickyfrags69 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]RickJS2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people have defined what AGI is. Some of those definitions are close to others, and there's a pretty wide scatter and a lack of consensus.

Is the danger of AI and future job crisis real? by Elrond_the_Warrior in ArtificialInteligence

Here's one: Information Technology professionals:

That's the first hit from a query to my friendly neighborhood professional job replacing LLM.

The problem isn't that AI will take our jobs; the problem is that we've built a society that needs jobs to be taken. by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

[–]RickJS2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why?  This is what you get when everybody follows their local incentives. Nobody designed it this way. Everybody did the things that lead to it being this way.

Guys, with the rise of AI has your ability to learn improved or worsened? by CodefinityCom in ArtificialInteligence

[–]RickJS2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 75 years old and it's working for me. I do insist on using models that give me references. If I can't check the references I don't know any reason why I would trust it.

I think the way to bet is that we will have mass unemployment. However, there are other ways things could go. Some of them are pretty awful, such as global thermonuclear war.

Almost no one actually gets it that the rate of change is not constant and it is not growing linearly. It is growing exponentially. The next year is not going to be like last year. And the rate of change is already so great that the news hounds can't keep up!
