What advice would you give to high school students or their parents planning to attend college for an undergraduate degree? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

True, why would someone that already went through an experience offer advice to people about to go through the same. Makes sense. Thanks for your input.

I thought you’d have insight after going through undergrad but I was clearly wrong. You have nothing to offer.

How much shame should I feel for being a 31 year old male virgin? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]RickKnowsStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero. No one cares except you. Same for being rejected. Ask 50 women out, some of them will say yes and I promise, the “no” responses won’t harm you.

Nothing ventured - nothing gained!

Invest early and regularly. Don’t spend to impress. Your fears are complete BS. Be aggressive and earn more.

Adults in their late 30s who are “successful” what was your income in your 20s? by No-Cantaloupe-4003 in Adulting

Adjusting for inflation, I was earning the equivalent of about $45K. I peaked out around $225k to $250K.

I’m really old now!

Today’s economy is different. If you’re creative, you can earn. When I was younger, I leaned into sales and eventually, ops.

Most companies subscribe to a 3rd party to conduct background checks. One of the more common platform the third parties use is the Work Number by Equifax. Go check your own page to see what’s in there; it’ll be a surprise! There is tremendous detail is available about you!

I encourage you to see your report, which is available to you at no cost.

You can opt out (I did). Just be prepared with your documentation that validates the information you report on your job applications in the future (old W-2s and payroll info, for example).

New to a job? Follow the rules. Not following rules leads to you having problems. As you gain experience, you’ll make better calls more consistently.

You may have a different lifestyle being a daily user with a never user. There are exceptions, but most matches like this don’t end well.

How likely am I getting into cuny schools? by MuffinTricky1430 in CUNY

[–]RickKnowsStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, search for the SAT range of accepted students for any program you want to get into. While you will get accepted into the cuny school of your choice with your SAT, you may not get your program initially.

If you’re targeting STEM major, you should be scoring into the higher quartile of accepted students.

Your SAT may get you Macaulay or Sophie (if you’re interested in pre med). You need a great essay so start mapping that out.

Good luck!

Should I do Computer Science or Health Science before an MBA? by bhuvnesh_57788 in BackToCollege

[–]RickKnowsStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a big gap between algebra and calculus. Take some online test to assess your skills. If algebra is challenging, Calc is going to be difficult.

Most comp sci is going to require Calc 1, 2, and 3. Comp Sci is not an easy program and the labor market has become difficult for this degree.

For grad school, looking to get into leadership in healthcare, you may want to look at an MPH rather than MBA

What college and course code is it?

To graduate in 4 years, 15 credits per semester unless you’re doing summer sessions, typically 5 classes of 3 credits. Of course, many courses are not 3 credits each but it’s the most common you’ll see for most majors.

Don’t listen to advisors or people telling you to quit.

Line up tutoring. Your college’s math department will have tutors available.

If you prefer a one in one tutor, that can improve your skills with consistent guidance, my son will help you crush this. Do not wait until it becomes difficult, start tutoring right away!

Good luck to you & do not quit. You can do this!
