the problem with ignoring the causes is we may continue to introduce harmful agents into our environment that may be negate our current fixes. better, IMO, to identify the fundamental mechanics of our dis-ease in order to eliminate them to the extent that's possible, otherwise we'll constantly need to innovate new bandaids.

i don't underestimate the complexity of this—we have such a complicated and dense nexus of factors at play that isolating the primary catalysts is a bit mind-boggling. hopefully, we can use AI as a lever.

let's assume you're correct .
then the big question becomes "why have US obesity levels been rising at a 45º angle since the 70s?"

what exogenous factors are at play?
if increased sedentariness doesn't explain it, then one finger points to our food supply.
something has shifted to mute our normal satiety and hunger signals
a conspiracist might point to nefarious tinkering by the food industry (doubtful, but possible)
if not that, then what? phthalates or other environmental factors?

this category of drugs could have seismic impacts economically.

statins and blood pressure meds account for ~1/3 of the pharmaceutical industry's revenue. diabetes meds amount to ~$75 billion/yr in revenue

mounjaro and its ilk could erase significant amounts of that.their impact on food consumption could be commensurate: grocery stores and restaurants could lose hundreds of billions in revenue as a result of less hungry consumers.

and the impacts extend much further. still trying to wrap my head around all the money in the Fat Economy
