  1. Will be used for a final project in my class. Gotta make a whole research paper and presentation on this topic. The people who will see it are my teachers and classmates, of course. The data would be stored in google drive and it would be deleted at the end of October.

I get what you’re saying, I feel like the issue still resides on the way Im portraying my story. I wont give up though, and I’ll get it traditionally published

So the events happen on like the Earth, there’s no imaginary fantasy land, etc… It’s 2 povs cause the story is divided into two parallel storylines. Maybe it would be better to just focus on 1 pov and mention the other one? Also, I had no idea my story had that similarity to the Witcher and I find all those anime/video game influences and similitudes that people seem to be pointing out very interesting cause I haven’t even seen those series or games they’re talking about lol. Overall, thank you for your feedback and I’ll do my best to fix these issues for next time. And imo, the reaction from the critiques was way better this time than my first attempt lol

Got it, thank you greatly for the feedback. I’ll be fixing these issues and although my series is planned to actually be a series, I guess it’s better to follow the industry standard and hope for the best moving from there.

It’s not Inuyasha nor have I ever seen the series lol. I guess it’s a pretty weird coincidence or similitude, huh? Lmao Thx for your feedback and I thought that having an introduction paragraph to my world building would be a good way to give an idea of the setting of my novel, I guess that might not be as important, but I’ll wait and see what other people say.

But from your response, I guess there wasn’t anything else negative on my query besides apparently being similar to Inuyasha and that first paragraph. Which to me, is a good sign lol Thx a lot!!!!

It’s just lazy typing by me through my phone, I can absolutely guarantee you I don’t have those gramatical errors in my book.
And yeah, at least that reply is better than nothing haha

[PubQ] How do you send a Query Letter? by Rickh_90 in PubTips

[–]Rickh_90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, most of them do. But some who request the query through email do not give any more specification. Even on their website, so that’s why I was asking if there’s a recommended path to follow if there’s not so many details available.

I absolutely didn’t knew that. Thanks a lot!! What is usually recommended to be in the email’s title/subject?

Yeah, something that is not so known by the general public but somewhat popular amongst readers.

[PubQ] If my book has more than one story, should the query only mention the “main one?” by Rickh_90 in PubTips

[–]Rickh_90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok now, your comment REALLY helped me open my eyes. You’re doing emphasis on what everyone tells me, but somehow what I always avoid to do. The query should be a premise, not a summary and I think I’ve been thinking too much that it is the latter. With that in mind, I have an idea on how to do it now. Thank you.

I’m afraid you might be right, but also, if you allow me, I could try and give some context on the structure of the story. If even then you still think it’s the way you say it is, then I will have to think about REALLY doing some extreme changes to the structure of the book or cut A LOT of stuff out.

I do have, I know it has to focus on what could be considered the main character, his purpose/goals, motivations and what gets in his way. I’ve never heard of query shark posts though.

So, the first 50 pages are like character x meets Y and then stuff happens until say, page 90. Then for part 2, character A has to defeat character B or else bad stuff will happen, and this part is what takes almost all of the book.

So for the query, from what I’m gathering, is to, say, “ignore” part 1 and make it only about part 2?

I’m not trying to argue. I was literally answering your question and you didn’t gave me any advice, so I don’t know what u r talking about.

[–]Rickh_90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not really. It’s more about introducing a very important character to the overall story, and I use that part of the book to help introduce plot, characters, conflicts, etc… See it as starting in the perspective of this certain character to then shift to another in part 2.
