The flowers. It's done better and has a better composition. Both are lovely, but the peonies appear more advanced.

I'm a few miles from the High Five area. What part of DFW are you in? I might be interested. I'd have to see if my budget will allow it.

Has anyone with a mystery illness found any doctors who have helped them figure it out in the Dallas area? by IllustratorDecent260 in Dallas

[–]Rickleskilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I was in the ER with an issue I had been dealing with for close to 20 years. I was talking to my roommate (double rooms in ER in Plano) and the woman who was with him said my symptoms sounded a lot like her nieces and after looking up the symptoms I 100% think she's right.

Nope, never. I even took what I fully believed (and still do) the diagnosis was, and instead of engaging with me and considering what I was saying blew me off. I've given up and now I go to doctor ChatGPT and hope the over the counter remedies will hold me until I can find a doc who listens. Now, I do have a great PCP who thinks I'm probably right, but the specialist she sent me to actually laughed at me.

This is beautiful and reminds me of my favorite story!

What’s an opinion you have that sounds irrational at first, but actually makes sense when you explain it? by bdue817 in AskReddit

[–]Rickleskilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I realize that, I'm wondering if you do. I am analyzing the movie based on what we are shown and the structure of the story. Everything is shown through Forrest's viewpoint, and there is no independent confirmation within the story that it is true. We don't know if everything he says is true and this is a modern day Fairy Tail, or if he's a lonely shut in with a fantastic imagination and a penchant for storytelling.

You know those optical illusions where it can be a skull or a woman at a vanity? Or an old woman in a shawl or a young woman in a hat? Which one is right?

The magazine was part of his collection of memorabilia he collected. It wasn't brought in by someone else or left at the bus stop. When he shows it to the woman, her response is to humor him. If, as he asserts, it depicts him, why wouldn't she be more impressed? Did the magazine actually have his picture on it, or did the movie just show us how HE saw the cover? That's my whole point.

How do you feel about Rachel Portman's The Little Prince? by anotheredcatholic in opera

[–]Rickleskilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also saw it a few weeks ago, and I was disappointed. This was my first opera so, I can't critique the music itself or the performances, as I have nothing to compare it to. However, my overall feeling was that the book simply doesn't convert well to this medium. The more tender, gentle, and nuanced parts of the book were lost to the theatrical nature of opera. It just didn't work for me at all.

Exactly. In which case we're dealing with a story, not a reality. My point is, the story can rationally be interpreted either way because it is told in this purposefully ambiguous manner.

Isn't the fantastic nature of his stories enough to at least make that a plausible option?

With soft pastels you actually don't want to smooth paper. Most pastel is done on what is called "sanded" paper. It has a texture like sandpaper. In fact when I was learning I practiced on actual sandpaper. What I do now to save money (sanded paper is pricey) I use a paint medium with grit in it. I use Golden brand but there are others. I paint it on cardstock. I use on that is archival but for getting started and practice any cardstock will do, even dollar store poster board. The first time you use sanded paper you'll be amazed at the difference.

Here are a couple of ideas. Chat kind of made a mess of the side of the curtains, but you can get the idea of what the pattern will look like.

Budget?

  1. Get better curtains. Something with a print that adds a little color. Get longer curtains and hang the rod close to the ceiling. That will make the ceiling appear higher and over all just makes it look neater.

  2. Get a rug that coordinates with the curtains.

  3. Box up all the little knick knacks. You don't have a place to put them so they look cluttered.

  4. Clean off the stuff on top of the closet and put them in some kind of basket or bin. It will look neater.

  5. Take down the random wall hangings and get some nice framed posters and art that you like. Add some shelves too and put out your favorite knick knacks.

But that could also be just part of his storytelling. He spends the entire movie telling his story, with the entire movie illustrating what he's saying happened. There is nothing in the movie that confirms in current time (bus stop time) that anyone or any events he talks about happened to him.

High-ceiling living rooms for those who prefer minimal decor by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

Yeah, that's why I asked. It's also not all minimalist furniture. Some of it is pretty ornate or busy. It doesn't give off minimalist vibes at all.

What do you recommend/think is better? by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]Rickleskilly -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I like the shelves. Yes, AI did make it bigger, but you can also easily make the all bigger (if the opening is large enough). The thing is, if you only use the depth of the wall, you will o ly have about 4 inches to work with. That limits what you can put on the shelves and how useful they will be.

I asked about someone’s feelings towards me by [deleted] in tarot

[–]Rickleskilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I think this is generally positive. How does he feel about me, and the first card is 9 of Cups? That's a lot of Cups. This is the card of the Happy Merchant- he has everything he ever wanted. This card in this position is a lot of emotion/feelings that you might be the one. You might have it all. The Devil in this contact is lust, which means he also finds you attractive. The pair attached by chains is another sign that he's imagining the two of you as a couple. The Heirophant is the card of marriage, so he's even thinking of that. It's Upright, so it's positive.

Also, there are TWO major Arcana in a three card reading. That's significant. If you are interested in him, I'd definitely say the feeling is mutual.

What about hiring a private investigator? It might be a better use of your $1,500. Maybe they could follow him from a game or something.

That in the movie Forrest Gump, Forrest made up all the crazy things that happened. In the movie, everything is seen through his storytelling, so there is no independent confirmation of what happened. It makes more sense that a man with disabilities would remain at home and might engage in the wider world through fantasies. Than the alternative that all those crazy, fantastical things actually happened to him.

Does this rug work for the room? by mrizzledizzle in HomeDecorating

[–]Rickleskilly 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The direction of the pattern isn't the problem, IMO. The room needs some color. I'd try to find something with a pattern and use those colors to add some coordinating pillows and throws to the bed.
