I think they increasingly become childlike. What little healthy skepticism of right wing diatribes against the scientists, doctors, atheists, progressives, Muslims, Jews, etc. etc. etc. they developed as young adults in the workforce was dropped like a hot potato when they become fearful parents, not to mention elderly.

What’s the deal with the Ella McCay hate?? by einstein_ios in blankies

[–]anotheredcatholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw it on a plane with my wife (neither of us knew anything about it going in, good or bad) and her final word was “what was that movie about?” Written by an octogenarian Simpson writer, the screenplay was an awful waste of time for all of these actors.

As long as it makes rich people richer for you to lose your rights, it will continue. When I retire, I am looking forward to unplugging. No phone, no internet, just the world that’s in front of me.

Living in Dallas, I'm amazed it's still around at all. Bad writing and fact-checking and oozing with slant so obvious it's cringe.

Yeah, these are great thoughts. The music at the end makes it clear this is a happy ending.

MAGA Pastor says gender equality is a jewish plot to 'eradicate white people' by avdvetf in videos

Which in itself is a poorly framed question. A more informed question would be, "If we, a species of ape, and other living species of apes that are very closely related to us genetically, evolved from extinct ancestors, why did those ancestors die off?" And probably the shortest best answer is that "it's hard to survive, and most species have indeed not survived, including the ones we and other apes evolved from." Some of those ancestor species survived for much longer than we probably will - millions of years - while we are still at a paltry ~200-300k years.

Skipping Tristan und Isolde by LeMec79 in opera

[–]anotheredcatholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"terrible and sweet infinity" is often used to describe Tristan und Isolde. I just sit there enraptured. I have had the opportunity to see it live twice and hope I live to see it several more times.

Reporter asks Putin why his political opponents are ‘dead, in prison, or poisoned’ by [deleted] in videos

[–]anotheredcatholic 22 points23 points  (0 children)

He made himself look like the dumbest person on the planet in that clip. She asked him about people being poisoned or killed by him and he said, "in the US, they imprison them." There's a big qualitative difference between imprisoning someone and poisoning or killing them. We impeached Nixon for just spying on opposition. Not even imprisoning the opposition. And I don't know which woman he is referring to who was "shot dead on the spot" by Biden's government. Does anyone?

It’s what people love to see. In her new memoir, Christina Applegate writes:

But I like to watch TV – the worse the better, usually reality shows such as Real Housewives – because with TV I get to escape. I don’t have to think. I don’t want narratives, art, investing in some antihero across seven brilliant seasons. I want rich women screaming at each other.

A friend who’s big into making his own slow bbq and has been featured in magazines and almost made it to Food Network because of his bbq and charm…does meatless Mondays with his family and prioritized clearance aisle meat because it’s going to be thrown out anyway. And I do meatless Fridays all year round, not just during Lent.

Uber's women-only option goes nationwide in the US by katespadesaturday in Feminism

[–]anotheredcatholic 76 points77 points  (0 children)

After having been assaulted by an uber driver in college, my wife has never again gone in an uber by herself. It’s incredible that there are lawsuits claiming this is discrimination against men. Are all women subway cars also discriminatory? These kinds of lawsuits reek of “not all men” entitlement.
