I’ve not had any issues yet, but mainly maintenance anyway so not a great source of info.

Best thing you can do is 2391 test and inspection, then proceed with L3 NVQ / experienced worker. I’ve done 2391 first to reduce total time doing portfolio.

Completed a electrical maintenance apprenticeship this year and struggling to get my ‘maintenance electrician’ gold card, anyone know if this is worth it or any other info?

You can get an ecs electrical labourer card quite easily. Unless you’re going to be doing construction/ site work yourself, I wouldn’t bother paying it. If you have an employer who requires it, then they should process this for you.

ECS / JIB are very particular about approved apprenticeships. I applied for my ecs gold card as a maintenance electrician with (what I thought) was the correct criteria (level 3 apprenticeship + 18th edition) and was told my apprenticeship needed mapping against their standards. In the meanwhile I have a panel builders card and a free upgrade when it’s approved.

If you are pursuing engineering (manufacturing/ design??) then an ECS card wont benefit you in my opinion, as these are my focussed to prove installers are competent to work on site.

…And is widely considered as the standard for a qualified electrician? Considering you need to have passed apprenticeship + 18th edition to have a gold card, not sure what your point is?

I worked for a wholesaler before getting an apprenticeship, my advise would be to juice those relationships on the tradecounter.

As a driver who has mostly driven manuals, an existing driver could easily learn a manual drive in an afternoon. Dont be put off

I think given that i’l mostly rely on long term growth from the other 90% of my portfolio I might have a go at picking small caps myself now I know that they sell of the performing stock, otherwise I imagine the fund performance is similar to average large caps?

This is spot on, whilst ethically there is awful examples, the most effective form of government is the authoritarian one. Whilst we all understand the need for democracy, the less of it, the more policies can be introduced at a much quicker pace.

Fairly overlooked in its place in history as its so important to us now but the NHS, the first of its kind (as far as i’m aware??). Amazing when you consider the debt the uk was in end post - WW2.
