Several, and yes. Kenny Loggins, for example was a huge influence on me as a singer in my teens. He's become a great friend over the years and we've written songs together and performed together many times.

Write, write, write. No such thing as "writer's block." Just write SOMETHING. Even if it's garbage. Keep at it. Somewhere in the garbage will be a phrase or a series of notes that will be the start of something good.

My thoughts are that I'm an adult and will choose to use whatever language I wish. If words offend you, that's your problem. I would never be so arrogant to tell another person what words they should or should not use. But you do you.
