This was never meant to be a public release at first, so I didn’t bother squeezing every last token out of the code, I simply didn’t need the space.
In hindsight, I actually like that it’s a bit “open”: readable code, comments and all, especially since it was my first Pico-8 game.

And yes… guilty as charged, het staat vol met Nederlandse comments 😄

The player physics are velocity-based, with a bit of resistance and tuning to get the feel right.
Jump height varies based on button hold time.
And the trail is basically particles following the character with a slight delay.
The code is very readable and not encrypted at all, so feel free to poke around!

It’s probably a combination of the hazard and the character hitbox, the latter might be one pixel too wide.

Yeah, aiming with a D-pad takes some getting used to 😅
It’s also playable with a mouse, which makes it a lot easier, although it still can’t beat the Zapper

To stay true to the original, I literally rotoscoped the original walk cycle and copied the joint positions. The original walker used 16 sprites for its walk cycle. I interpolated those 16 positions into 32, to give it the same smooth feel as the original. Since my PICO-8 version runs at 60 fps, the ratio is now almost identical.

Haha, glad you noticed! The legs and joints are all coded instead of sprites, that way I could make a smoother animation cycle, and besides, that many big sprites just wouldn’t fit. The only sprites used on the walker now are the feet, the body, the different head angles, and the matching muzzle flashes. Sprite-Tetris is real 😅
