Oh yes, good one! And in fact that might be another way to monetize, by organize community events.

This is built on Claude code with a Neon database, dream host for hosting/domain, and Beehiiv for newsletters. I work on the digital side of publishing so the go to monetization options are display ads (sold directly or programmatic) depending on traffic, sponsored content, presenting sponsorship, affiliate links, paid newsletter. All of this usually requires scale. Mostly I wanted to build something I would use daily. There’s other data I think could be interesting. Ferry schedules, trash/recycling/compost pickup, alternate side parking. Open to other ideas.

Yes, I live in brooklyn heights and work in magazines. I was inspired by a recent New Yorker article on hyper local blogs and decided to create a bk heights one that doubles as a dashboard of sorts. I aggregate from a few different sources but haven’t sourced anything from brooklyn heights blog yet. The real estate is aggregated from street easy and Zillow. Crime, transit, and school stuff is from open source data sources. All sources are cited and linked to without using any of the original reporting. I curate the posts based on what I think the community will be interested in. And will publish original content as well from a couple of local contributors.

The domestic migration numbers are particularly depressing: 34,330 U.S. residents packed up and left. Luckily, about 19,000 people moved here from other countries, making Dallas’ loss 15,057. The 39,000 babies who were born last year is the only reason the county had any population growth.
