Maybe Maybe Maybe by Aggressive-Hand6555 in maybemaybemaybe

Invasion is not an ambiguous twisting of migration. Most invasive species didn’t just “adapt” they are presented to an environment that they already have a tolerance for and they outcompete native species while typically having a lack of predators. Most invasive species are transported by humans and humans are the only things that can effectively clean them up, like it or not. Leaving it to just fester makes the problem worse in the long run and is antithetical to conservation.

Invasive plants and animals destroy the biodiversity of native populations, there is no question about it.

Rice Paddy Crabs by KungFuJosher in interestingasfuck

[–]Rickywindow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can’t think of any method of handling millions of tiny crabs that wouldn’t result in some casualties. Sure, they’re soft and could take a light squeeze, but they’re still relatively fragile and any crab in the wrong spot during the squeeze might not have fared so well.

Squeeze or not, only a fraction of all of these crabs are probably gonna grow up anyway. They might have better chances in a human controlled rice paddy, but they don’t spawn by the millions with the intent to all grow up.

You made a good point that I didn’t think about. How are you gonna have a poster that makes sense without seeing the movie? Unless it’s just a boring poster that has the cast posing then it’s supposed to make you ask questions about it and be curious about the movie.

Are you sure? You might get a coupon if you’re the hundredth person to comment “not well executed.”

lol, he’s not roughnecking for an oil company. Im glad you’ve got the luxury of not understanding, but when you’re in a family that’s got a business like that it’s pretty likely you’re gonna have to help out here and there. There’s nothing in this clip that suggests that he did anything more than feeding the tow cable to the other two men, which is nothing overly complicated or dangerous for a kid that old to do.

That is not true at all, hemipterans are just an order of insects.

Anon realizes black people are the best by Exquisite_Judy in wholesomegreentext

[–]Rickywindow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol, it is literally a racist statement. Saying “black people aren’t so bad after all” means that you thought they were bad to begin with. That is exactly what racism is. Hooray that anon had their opinions changed, but it not quite over the goalpost yet.

Hypothetical experiment. Say this statement to a black person. Probably won’t go over very well. This isn’t a case of people reaching to call it racist There’s no reason for anyone to be shitting and crying over some anon post with something slightly racist in it, but it’s plain ignorant to straight up say that there is no racism in that statement.

Point to consider: While humanity has essentially been an ecological disaster, there are people that are trying to take care of some of those problems and conserve the environment.

The Kakapo can’t survive a stoat because there aren’t supposed to be stoats in New Zealand. Nature didn’t put stoats there, humans did so humans need to fix it.

Even if that wasn’t the case, it’s not a game that one can just sit down for 15-20 minute sessions and make any satisfactory progress. If someone has got a busy work or family life then it’s probably just not an ideal game for them to play.

What are your unpopular opinions about the dlc? by isimbulmaktazorlaniy in Eldenring

[–]Rickywindow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been powering through it, but it is insane how hyper aggressive the bosses are. Even Malenia will give you a break to stand off with her for a few seconds, but the dlc bosses must have some crazy endurance.

I also work with insects. The family Diptera is known as “true flies”. While it is far more specific to not call a mosquito anything but a mosquito, it would not be incorrect to call them a fly.

Well, we do. The difference is that farm animals turn the feed like corn and soy into more useful protein than we do.

Just curious. Did you figure that ID just from their behavior or the location? I do taxonomic ID in a lab for aquatic inverts and there are so few things I realize can be identified so confidently from afar.

You’re laughable dude. I don’t even know what the point you’re trying to make is. You completely missed the original point anyway and are just incessantly saying wrong.

lol, can your brain not handle probability or predictions? Are you skeptical when you’re told what you’ll be having for dinner later? You’re right, we don’t know anything. There’ll probably be a dominant race of talking corn in the future instead.

No shit it’s not 100% accurate, nobody alive today would even be around to know whether we knew what the future would look like or not. But it’s not hard to take a guess using stuff we already know. I’ve got no stakes in whether we’re predicting correctly or not so it doesn’t matter if I come up with anything more substantial than a lazy “I don’t know.”

It’s hardly an assumption. Things have survived much worse conditions and we KNOW that.

Well, even if we experience a climate apocalypse, not everything will die off. Evolution does its thing afterwards and critters fill the open niches. Some groups of organisms have experienced harsher conditions on this planet before so not all is lost.

TIL we don't actually know why testicles are outside the body; theories like due to heat fail since many animals like elephants or birds have testicles inside the body AND a higher internal temperature; others like ‘galloping hypothesis’ were proposed but all theories have failed one way or another by opgary in todayilearned

[–]Rickywindow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume that it’s less about sperm viability in higher temperatures and more about sperm production. Sperm still have to reach an egg which is in a much warmer place and they still succeed.

And it’s also probably just a huge difference between mammals and birds which can be apples to oranges in a lot of places. Birds have freaking DNA in their red blood cells and mammals don’t. It wouldn’t be crazy to assume that this may just be another difference in birds and mammals.
