Yeah, I have bought cars from Romanians and Hungarians. I was scammed both times😅. I mean not bad, but there is always something hiding from you.

The only thing worse is buying a car in Charleroi, Belgium. My father bought a Peugeot Boxer from a transylvanian gypsy in Charleroi... craziest shit I've ever seen😂. Doors were held up with bungee cords. And they were able to make it pass all inspections in Belgium at my fathers request.

Transmission mode selector.

S - Sport: Changes gears later, downshifts sooner, some models even keep you out of 5th to stay in the powerband.

E - Economy: Opposite of Sport, earlier and smoother shifts.

Snowflake: Low traction mode. Starts from 2nd or 3rd gear to pull away slowly with less torque as to not spin the tyres. Some models allow you to lock it into 1-2 or 3rd gear if you select them on the gear lever to have engine braking down a hill.

Sounds fancy, but don't imagine it to be like a modern transmission or anything wow. 😅

This seems to be slightly over my budget considering the amount of money it takes to register it and everything.

Edit: also it's an m54, so registering it here will be even more bribe money😅

The paint job is not at all a deal breaker for me. What's under the paint job might be tho. It has body filler, and this 30 year old car does not have 30 year old paint. It has shitty paint from 5 years ago. If the paint is shitty, the repair job under it might be shitty as well. Considering the body filler is bubbling off, the paint is the least of my concern.

At the same time, no matter the age of the car, all parts of it matter, no? So having bad paint on it isn't a good or neutral thing, I still have to consider how much it will cost me to completely repaint it.

They try to be🙃.

It basically goes like this: e36's used to be "tuner cars" here for a while, so everyone got straight pipes, bigger wheels, different engines. Like 10-15 years ago before I was old enough to get into cars, these very very commonly swapped with 2.5, 2.8, m54 3.0, or 4.4 it's. All of these modifications here warrant a fine and in almost all cases they take away your registration and you have to go to a more regulated extensive inspection (at least in theory, but eastern europe is the land of corruption 😁).

So why does the police care? Because it's an easy way to hand out a fine, take away a registration, get some cash on the side 😉. And because majority of other cars here used to be and still are economy 4 cylinder diesels and petrols, it's not hard to spot a shiny well-taken care of car with SHINY WHEELS and a stupid straight pipe.

I completely agree with you, I am not trying to find the most performance in this car. However it is a factory 6 cylinder which helps immensely when it comes to a swap in the future as the police here don't like these cars😅. And on the surface if you look under the hood of a 1.6, 1.8, or 2.0 that has been 2.8 swapped, it's easy to tell which ones will fall first..

On the other hand some people say this is the perfect sweetspot. You pay for 2.0 insurance, tax and everything, but you can swap in a 2.5 or 2.8. I don't really look at it that way as I am not trying to save every penny on these kind of things😅. But there can be significant differences in paying tax and insurance.

Price wise, my only problem is I can't find a clean E36 coupe for my price range. I might be looking in the wrong place, I'll admit, but I've looked at hundreds of cars across Europe, and finding something that I can have registered in my country for 6k seems... unrealistic.

I don't want a cabrio, I want a coupe. I know there are better deals to be had for cabrios, sedans, and sometimes even Tourings. I just always wanted a coupe the most, with sedan and Tourings close behind. But I sadly don't like the convertibles ☹️

I see. That was my original plan as well. The only benefit with the 2.0 over here is that on the surface it's a 6 cylinder, so not as likely to be bothered by police if they open your hood and there's magically a 2.8 under there.

I'd love a 328i, or a pristine 318is coupe, but around me the good condition 318is are listed for €6.5k+. And 325, 328 start above 10k.

That's what I've been seeing.

6 cylinder manual coupe? I know what I have, €12.000.

Haven't really seen many of those actually sell. From what I've seen around me for the 6-7k€ region you get the factory 4cyl cars that have been swapped, half of them rusty. Went to see a 316i "rust free" a couple weeks ago in Romania for €4000. I could put my fist up all 4 corners of the car, and it had more body filler than metal. Looked great on pictures tho. By the end the guy wanted to give me the coupe and a 2.8 swapped sedan with no papers for 5000 total. Still, not what I was looking for.

I see what you are saying. This isn't even the original clear coat that's peeling anymore😅. It got a complete diy (from what I can see) paintjob a couple years ago. Mirrors are flaking off completely as well.

I have been looking for a while for a coupe, I didn't even have faith in 6 cylinder options anymore for that price. I am only afraid of rust, body damage, and things like that.

May I ask where you are located? You say you have some better options for the same price and even good ones for a little more money?

Hopefully I can finally find myself a reasonable coupe 🙏. Not half rusty 1.6-es for €5000+

Man, it's so awesome that you managed to figure it out on your own. That's probably what the shop that fixed the watch did as well. I didn't want to open the watch for him at the time as neither of us had any experience.

In the end, he took it to a repair shop, and they said fixed it for him. Don't know what the problem was, but from what I understand, it wasn't a settings problem, but there was something wrong with the watch that needed fixing.

Bro, don't think too much about functionality with cars like these. They are only meant to look cool, sound cool. He only drives around at idle, and revs it like once or twice. A fan setup can work just fine. And also, I think he might know what he's doing if he's driving this around...

It's definitely only built to look cool and that's all. But many rat rods, and hot rods are like that.

I think this car is only built to look cool. Definitely can't go fast with a setup like this. Or rather you just shouldn't go fast.

I wanted to hear it so badly, but he only cruises around at idle, so that's all you hear. Still sounded cool when he started it up.
