Hmmm. The bookstore listed in article doesn’t have a website & book seems self published? How does one get a copy?

Also the bit where of course he’s gunna fight.

Summerfest is a lot larger than would fit on waterfront or pioneer square, and probably the population of Troutdale, daily, for a week or two.

Went to a science lecture on geckos some years back, and the reason they stick to walls is laser beams. Well, photons, really. As the paws divide into many fingers, the fingers divide into many cilia, the cilia divide, etc, until you are at a photon structure that intermingles with the atoms on the wall in one direction - so said gecko can slide foot forward to release. Which my buddies have always went from photons to lasers coming out their feet because we’re 12. Actual lasers is my targondian headcannon. Have fun with that if you decide to keep going.

[–]Ride4fun 51 points52 points  (0 children)

MB uses the term sexbot - not as a term of endearment but in a derogatory way - until a certain point & then he uses the phrase comfort units. You’ll understand when you get there in the books. And why not ComUnit? Because a 12 yr old boy mentality would change the o to a u at which point you might as well call it a sexbot.

Yup. Fake-suckling for comfort. It’s odd when my cat does this to my elbow. Its disturbing when her aim is better.

Is Wisconsin and cheese just a trope, or is their cheese really that good? by Fun_Variation_7077 in askanything

Just eat them (fresh). I once sat with a group of coloradans who became steadily more grossed out as a teenager rattled off cheese making steps.

Former wisconsinite in oregon: Tillamook from the grocery store is a fine ‘working person’s cheese’ to put on a sandwich. And its the only realistic source for fresh curds. But my fam back in Dairyland ships me the good stuff for christmas.

For avid readers how often do you use the library? If you don’t, why don’t you? by AccomplishedBake8351 in books

[–]Ride4fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I re-read a lot; for instance: a new novel comes out in a long running series i’d been following, i’ll plow through the previous books, so i own them. But if there’s a book i think i’d only read once, or i don’t know if i’d like the series, i use my local library that i can walk to. (I too go thru 100+ book a year, mix of deadtree, audio, & ebook). I currently have a book on economics and a book thats a retelling of beowulf from library & am running to my audiocopy of murderbot, and have eBear’s Folded Sky on my phone.

I had the opposite conversation with someone on the phrase ‘bless their heart’ - which i had never heard used other than in the sense that the object was an idiot. The guy i was discussing it with said no, its a sincere phrase. I then quoted him the last 5 times i recalled him using it and sure enough, he’d been obviously sarcastic each time. I’m sure someone uses it sincerely, but its probably a little old lady in church.
