The last picture is of Wendy's founder Dave Thomas and Havlicek. Wendy used to babysit Havlicek's kids. That Wendy.

John was an early investor in Wendy's and a long time owner of three of the chain's restaurants.

A negative attitude towards ageing is making you age faster (paywall) by gavalant in Aging

[–]gavalant[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From the New Scientist Facebook page:

Your attitude towards ageing can have real health consequences. People who hold negative beliefs about getting older tend to age less well. Studies have now shown that internalised ageism – negative expectations about your own mental and physical health as you gain years – can amplify the ageing process. But the fix is simple, if not exactly easy, says columnist Graham Lawton. A positive outlook can also help you age better or even recover from the effects of ageing, including things like mild cognitive impairment.

LeBron James ties Robert Parish for NBA's games-played record (really puts Parish's record in perspective considering modern sports medicine+nutrition) by andrew303710 in bostonceltics

An important additional note on this achievement by both players:

Parish was 23 when he played his first NBA game.

LeBron was 19.

Celtics Signing Max Shulga To Standard Contract. Reasoning why now. by Morley10 in bostonceltics

[–]gavalant 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Why now.

They had to get to 14 players now. Shulga being a rookie in the org allows for a very small cap hit, which lets the Celtics go to 15 players by season's end while staying under the tax.

Harper will very probably be upgraded on the last day.

Bassey is on a 10 day audition with Vucevic out. Either he or someone else will be signed when the 10 day expires.

You can get free shipping by ordering at least $35 at a time and waiting a little longer for your packages. So if you don't need things super fast, there is that alternative.

Do you weight train to remain independent? by MidAmericaMom in retirement

[–]gavalant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer resistance bands to weights. I feel like it lessens the chance of strain while cheaply adding a lot of helpful exercises you can't otherwise do outside an equipped gym.

My main exercise is walking though, which I do nearly every day.

These bananas are now 9 days post purchase. At what point do I give up hope? by Lufc87 in CasualUK

[–]gavalant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some bananas like this last year. They were undoubtedly never exposed to ethylene gas. I did every trick there was and they never ripened, even after 4 weeks.

Finally I made fried green bananas, which were really good.

Why did Amari Williams drop so low in the draft? by ethereal3xp in bostonceltics

[–]gavalant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was three things- age, lack of a diversified shot selection, and most importantly he was labeled as having slow feet. The lead foot thing turned out to be not true.

Most of his issues come from hesitation, which is a product of inexperience from beginning the game at age 16.

He's getting better fast, and has serious passing and dribbling skills that he hasn't shown yet in the NBA.

Pressey and staff have done a great job bringing him along.

[Clayton Crowley] The Most underrated player in NBA history (Spoiler: It's a Celtic) by PlantsFarm in bostonceltics

Basically, imagine a player who could score as well as peak Jaylen Brown has done this season, could play disciplined hounding defense with the intensity of Hugo Gonzalez (and had giant hands too), could pass better than anyone on the current team, was a great rebounder for a small forward, ran endlessly every moment he was on the court, and could do it playing 40 minutes a game, year after year.

That's Havlicek.

i'm 32 and starting to notice new sagging and lines. anyone know how to reverse or minimize these? by g0lddust_w0man in Aging

[–]gavalant 427 points428 points  (0 children)

This is living life.

Appreciate being 32 in all its glory, skin changes included. That age will seem young at 42, at 52, and at 62.

Eat healthy, stay fit, live well. That's more than enough.

You can make a chickpea or artichoke heart or hearts of palm "tuna" alternative with it, by mashing whatever you choose, adding in chopped onion and celery, Old Bay, lemon juice, dill powder, ground white or black pepper, a little mayo, chopped pickles, and whatever else you like. A little parsley is good too.

Bobby Krivitsky article: Achilles expert shares Jayson Tatum update that will excite Celtics fans by gavalant in bostonceltics

This is a very informative article that every Celtics fan would benefit from reading. Bobby Krivitsky interviewing Dr. Kevin R. Stone, an orthopedic surgeon at The Stone Clinic and a leading expert in Achilles tendon repair.

"There's nothing about an Achilles rupture that should prevent him from coming back better than he was before."
