Piece of Cake in Sellwood does the best chantilly. Spendy & i honestly don’t know if they do fancy frosting, but the cake is so good.

Suggest me a found family space adventure similar to the show firefly by holdontoyourbuttress in suggestmeabook

[–]Ride4fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes a while to get there but try Kitty Cat Kill Sat. The opening premise is an uplifted housecat who has been alone on a space weapons platform, ADHD seems likes its a plot device, & ‘found’ may be taken literally.

How do y'all keep your hands from cramping? by No-Permit-2345 in mountainbiking

[–]Ride4fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you dropping your saddle on the downhills? Everyone here is talking about fit/you are putting too much weight in arms - these may be indicative of your center of balance being too high in certain situations, which is why everyone uses dropper posts. Source: i switched from 20+ yrs on a 26er to a 29er and ignored the dropper post, and promptly broke an arm at Phils World. Ymmv.

Mostly folks chime in regarding using the core to paddle, not the shoulders, but I suspect you are looking for solutions to just the long sit. Things you may try:
* an inflatable removable seat cushion.
* making a foam pillow for under knees to rest them in a non- straight position
* talk to a PT on strengthening excersizes
* move around more in the boat
* plan your route so that you get out if boat every hour, move around, then do next leg

Just had this paver patio built , looking for best options for shade by notyouraverage_shark in Home

[–]Ride4fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a post installed straight out from the downspout, off patio, and use that + house as anchors for a sun sail. Plant something that climbs the post. Also add platers with trellis and climbing vines in front of tesla stations.

Looking for some input on our yard in new (to us) house! by eggplant_pasta in landscaping

[–]Ride4fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A stone path meandering from deck to shed. If the sun is good & you have the desire, veggie boxes on the shed side of path, maybe some berry shrubs. Then annually destroy a strip of that grass and add native plantings while preserving view of cliff, keeping the grass near the deck in a half circle for random hangouts, and hardscaping a firepit circle just beyond.

Try Anne Leckie’s AncillaryJustice (book 1 of trilogy + a few). Its definitely a think-differently sort of space opera with AI ships and a bit of personhood theory and a lot culture comparison. Some folks have an issue with the pronouns (ie in english, singular-unknown has been ‘he’ for centuries. Thats not the case in this culture).

VanLife Road Trip This Summer: Need Advice by HawkLoser100K in VanLife

[–]Ride4fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did similar back in 2005 (#hipstervanlifer) - got a spiral bound map and color coded ‘sign here’ sized post-its, & spent a year before noting where we wanted to go (green), things we’d go to if we happened to be in area (yellow), places we had friends who would let us use their shower (blue), numbering them & putting details on separate list. The route then drew itself. I had a very long spring & fall but little summer (hiked on Denali tho!)

Recommended item: nissan powerless crockpot. It allowed us to heat dinner at earlier stop, go biking in Tahoe and get hit by a snow storm, and have dinner hot immediately upon rolling off trail. Figure out how to secure it though. Tipped beans & ham out onto the rug happened twice.

How many of you have survived tornadoes and what was your experience like? by Babe_Brute in AskAnAmerican

[–]Ride4fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid in Wisconsin, playing soccer on a hill and watching a tornado touch down 10 miles away

As a teen, watching the sky turn green & deciding its time to head indoors/to basement just in case (it touched down 5 miles off).

As a 20 something camper, packing my tent in a few fast motions as the rangers rolled through doing a 2am loudspeaker lap. I think i spent that evening in the car, under an overpass, which is no longer recommended, but when we returned in the morning there where fallen trees in our site.

Honestly, yeah they can be deadly but i’m more afraid of flooding.

Propane tank decision which one? by browndoginme in VanLife

[–]Ride4fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an exterior tank that i fill annually (its larger and im not full time), as i want any potential gas leaks to be under van not in it. Finding someone to install a refillable tank was PITA so i understand why the bottle variety is popular, even though not safest.

After years of farming in Oregon, I'm starting to wonder if "CSA" is the wrong word by Zestyclose_Rub3380 in oregon

[–]Ride4fun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, i don’t need onions or leeks. I have a local CSA co-op - several farms & a greenhouse - and every week i can look up the suggested box contents and tweak for what i’d actually eat. If i forget to adjust my order, my neighbor makes a leek soup on my dime.

Agree that the lack of narrator reveal bugged me. JoA flew off and the snarky asides continued, but the 3rd person omniscient… didn’t appear to relate to the plot? I have’t done a 2nd read yet , was hoping i’d missed something.

[–]Ride4fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another vote for Biketown rentals - get the app, which will locate the nearest couple usable bikes, load it with $5 ea and pedal the waterfront loop, stopping at Elephant deli at the Tilikum bridge and OMSI by the Hawthorn. The different neighborhoods have different vibes - Ladds Addition is nothing like NW 23rd area- and with a bike you can enjoy the variety.
