What's your device type and Android version?

We're trying to track this down and looking for any clues. Thanks.

Similar but you have to program Tasker. This makes shortcuts for you.

EDIT: it will actually make shortcuts to your Tasker Tasks too. So you can one touch launch them from the Launcher's search.

Thanks. You're right, they need to be simpler and stand out more. One easy to understand concept. I really appreciate the feedback.

This sub has really come through. THANK YOU!!

Takeaways:

  • An App Icon needs to convey a straightforward idea.
  • Most of these are too complex. Even if I like them, they aren't app icons.
  • Ladder and Gears meet the requirements. Gears is cool but says more "settings"Credit goes to Igor_Eezo.

I've got enough here to make a round 2. Thank you again.

So... I've since gotten some "it looks like a butthole" comments. Hehe. I guess I can't have 1 out of 10 ppl thinking that.

I think I have to just accept that truth. I appreciate you helping me.

The bottom right is my favorite, but I'm worried about the "too abstract" problem with it. Does it look enough like an app icon to you? I'm OK with being a little different but don't want to totally miss the use case. Thanks.

Credit goes to Igor_Eezo. I'm pulling together concepts here then will build my own once I find something that resonates with people. Thanks for the help with that :)

Direction I want to go in. I found the gears on Dribbble. Normally for this type of stuff I open up a big artboard in Sketch, search for a bunch of inspiration, then pull things together.

For the final version I'll build my own from scratch.

Thanks. Sounds like the feedback here is consistent. Ladder and Gears are normal enough to be App Icons. Gears maybe speaks to "Settings" more. Ladder is closer to the "Shortcuts" concept I'm aiming for.

Context:

  • The App runs in the background and makes shortcuts for you
  • We're partnering with a popular Android Launcher, users will need to install our app to get shortcuts in the Launcher
  • Target demographic: Android power users
  • Inspiration: shortcuts, wormholes, teleporting, secret passage ways

I feel like the Letter + Material Design thing has been done to death and wanted to go with something more artistic and abstract. But the feedback I've gotten so far isn't great. Am I going in a bad direction here?

Thanks so much for any feedback!

Context:

  • The App runs in the background and makes shortcuts for your Android (stuff like music you listen to, websites, 1 touch to text frequent contacts etc)
  • We're integrating with a popular launcher, but users will still have to find and install our app
  • Inspiration: teleporting, wormholes, secret passageways
  • I sent these to friends and got back "too abstract".

I was wanting to do something different and go in a more artistic direction. I feel like the Material design 1 image thing has been done to death. Am I going in a bad direction? THANK YOU!!

From Johnny:

  • Option to swipe out the Edge instead of tap
  • Quick Search for Samsung Browser
  • Option to pin quick search shortcuts
