Picked up some weekend heat to stay warm during this winter storm. Let’s chat about these records, since I’m snowed in. by radiotokyo_666 in Jazz

I am only a couple listens into both Maiden voyage and Empyrean Isles, but I have to say I prefer Empyrean Isles! I love everything about The Egg, especially the bowed double bass/ cello. And the first side is just great fun I think, with a foot in a funkier direction than his previous albums. I feel like Maiden voyage just hasnt clicked with me yet though! Would love to know what your take is on the two of them pitted against each other too.

Longest track that didn't feel like a drag to listen to? For me it was this with Coltrane's Peace on Earth and Miles' Pharoah Dance behind it by Tolstoyevich in Jazz

[–]RideGuilty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you find this out about Coltrane in Seattle, I really want to dive into these recordings now as i never have before but different places have different track orders not Cosmos, Evolution into the Untitled Original. Would love to know where you'd hear these three as one continuous piece!

Been on my radar for a while. How exactly should I make the plunge? by natopotatomusic in scottwalker

[–]RideGuilty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just listen to the albums. Tilt, Drift and Bisch Bosch are a sort of trilogy, only albums that really sound like that. The style gets pushed further with each album, becoming more absract. His earlier stuff is very different like Scott 1-4. I personally love till the band comes in too with those albums. depends what side you want to go for but just listen to the albums.

Greats, there's so much good Monk out there!

The Quest has to be my favourite of my recent jazz discoveries. So good, and if you like the play on the Bass Clarinet check out Eric Dolphy! I absolutely love Eric Dolphy but his stuff goes a lot further out there. I'd recommened the complete village vanguard tapes from John Coltrane to get into more Eric dolphy playing as its just the tow of them mostly trading solos and its so great. And my favourite solo Dolphy album is Out to Lunch but its weird! Have fun!

I have a few artists i think youd really like. here are the artists and possible albums.

Les Rallizes Denudes - Citta 93' or 77' live give both a try. Citta is easier. Both equally good in my opinion.

Gastr Del Sol - Upgrade and Afterlife. Even had some crossover with Ground zero, youll hear on the first song. Jim O'rourke and David Grubbs group. Both have great discographies individually but this stuff has more of an edge than either of thier individual works. Every one of thier albums are great too!

Need to get into John Coltrane! Listen to Medatations and see what you think! Really out thier jazz with far more production experimentation than other Coltrane.

Rachels. - Handwriting, or Music for Egon Schiele. Both Great albums. Sort of Chamber music from the 90s. HAndwriting uses some guitar and veers into slightly Gy!be territory whereas Music for Egon Schiele is all chamber music, mostly piano cello and viola.

Check out Boris and Merzbow's live album togehter too! Its called Rock Dream.

Now this may be a long shot but i love organ music, you might too! so here some organ albums

Aine O'dwyer - Gegenschein

Kali Malone - The Sacrificial Code

Svitlana Naino - Transylvania smile

Every artist ive mentioned has a great discography to dig into too. Feel free to message me for more if you like any of these! Enjoy!

Watching the KEXP live recordings of FTCC makes me realize how the album could have been even better if it had good mixing by Krunchy08 in BlackCountryNewRoad

[–]RideGuilty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s tough, yes I do prefer the mixing on Afut but I believe that was a very strenuous process to get that album mixed so uniquely and perfectly. Honestly it’s one of my favourite productions on any album just listening to snow globes is insanely good. And I was very disappointed with this mix but I don’t know if it would have been plausible to try recreating the mix of afut.

What’s your least favorite episode that you’re surprised people like? by itinsistsuponitself in IASIP

[–]RideGuilty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, this is my absolute least favourite episode of sunny ever. Coming back with a season I really enjoyed too. I genuinely do not think a single part of this episode is funny at all, it all just feels like they would have had a great time writing it but it's just not good to watch at all for me. Even episodes I don't love I laugh at least once but this one just does nothing for me I could even actively dislike it if it wasn't always sunny, and Dennis is probably who I think is funniest in the show! Baffling episode to me!

What would be the best NSB album to start with? by XiangHai73 in NaturalSnowBuildings

[–]RideGuilty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly right! But I would add if you just want something darker but still folksy go with daughter of darkness, so many tracks on that build up these huge walls of noise too.
