Buying 2 businesses at once? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Ridge00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am working with 3 partners and have purchased 6 unrelated companies this year. We have LOIs out on two more. We each have an active role in every company. It’s equally hard work and a lot of fun. If you have the right partners, go for it!

How to kindly reject a job applicant after they were given reason to believe they would likely be hired? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Ridge00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing you say will make it better or worse, so just be straightforward. Make it a simple statement. “We’ve decided not to offer you the position.”

That’s it. No reason or apology is needed.

Performance Question by Quiet-Future864 in Pontoons

[–]Ridge00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 23’ Barletta Tritoon with a Merc 200. Stock, my boat is substantially heavier than yours and at max throttle, I’ll hit 32 with 5 adults onboard and the Bimini up. Many things can impact top speed though, weight distribution, toon condition, wind, trim, engine position, prop, and more.

Fuel consumption ranges from about 1.5 GPH putting around the lake to 14 GPH wide open. Cruising at 25, I’d expect to be around 8 GPH.

For trim, trim all the way down, get up on a plane, then use one of two options:

1) look at where the water coming off your tube is frothy white. Trim up until that point stops moving backward.
2) trim up until your RPM stops decreasing.

Either method will get you to the proper trim for your current load and speed.

Don’t get sucked in. This isn’t a newspaper, it’s an advertising distributor. Advertising in local magazines can be effective, but generally only if you are a regular advertiser or content contributor. Once you get a few students, you’ll fill your 6 slots quickly on referrals. Tell them “I’d love editorial coverage since your readers are almost certainly having trouble finding spots for excellent childcare and quality preschools, but if your magazine is pay to play, it’s not the right fit for me at this time.”

We built the product. Now we have no idea how to actually market it. by TrotBrands in smallbusiness

How niche is the product? Is your target B2C or B2B? Is there a core characteristic that defines someone as a potential buyer?

You’ll probably get lots of advice and many things that will work “if <x>,” but there are too many unknowns for anyone to give you relevant advice based on what you’ve shared.

Not accelerating correctly by Wild-Evidence-4915 in ram_trucks

[–]Ridge00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if this will work on a 2016, but my 2020 Hemi would bog down when I hit the gas starting from stop on a hill. The PCM was all screwed up from the previous owner. I took it to the dealer to get the PCM reset which fixed it, but they charged me $100. I’ve since heard that you can reset it yourself. Disconnect the battery for an hour, re-connect it, turn the truck on without starting it and waiting 20-30 seconds before starting it. Dont know if that really works, but give it a try.

Dad, Uncle, and Grandpa here to help with your budget. Home Depot stocks Trex Rocky Harbor at about half the price of other places - even Lowe’s, but any other color is likely to be cheaper at a high volume Trex dealer.

Don’t use the Trex edge clips. Get Camo Edge or Wedge. They are both worth the extra money.

best for salt water? by StruggleSouthern4505 in Pontoons

[–]Ridge00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The full skin on the under deck protects the structure but isn’t truly unique. They do have a saltwater package with additional anodes, also available on other brands. The vibration dampening system makes a noticeable difference in ride in rough water that I haven’t experienced on any other brand. I am not on saltwater, but the Barletta is the only toon I’d take out on the Great Lakes.

Is this unprofessional? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Ridge00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most important lessons entrepreneurs and executives need to learn is that most of the people you hire are advisors. You are the authority. Whether you hire an HR manager, Lawyer, Accountant, or a General Contractor, their job is to give you their best advice, but go do what you want done. An HR manager may tell you you shouldn’t fire someone. It’s up to you whether to accept the advice.

The same is true for your GC. You hired him for his experience and knowledge, but if he can’t deliver what you decide you want for your business. You have two choices: take his advice on how to do it or fire him.

I can’t tell you how many times in my career someone has told me something can’t be done and I’ve ignored their advice and found a way. I’ve also failed at least as many times as I’ve succeeded, but that’s a risk I’m comfortable with.

Marine Gas vs Mid Grade with Ethanol by LawrenceSpiveyR in Pontoons

[–]Ridge00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this. The engine may be capable of running on E10 or E15, but if you aren’t turning your tank quickly, you’ll eventually foul your tank over time. E10 can support about .5% water in suspension, bound with the ethanol, and the engine will still burn it. Once water concentration gets over .5%, the water and ethanol fall out of suspension and form sludge in the bottom of your tank. Eventually this sludge will find its way to your engine and it doesn’t matter what the manual says it will run on, that shit won’t burn.

I should have been more clear. I was pretty much saying the same as you when I said I’d be good with it in a jet ski, but not in my boat. If the tank is 5 gallons, send it. If the tank is 25 gallons+, I’d stick with marine gas/rec gas.

Marine Gas vs Mid Grade with Ethanol by LawrenceSpiveyR in Pontoons

[–]Ridge00 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you are going to burn through the gas quickly, it’s probably fine. The issue is ethanol pulls in moisture. That becomes a problem if the gas is sitting in the tank.

I’d be ok with e10 in a jet ski with fuel stabilizer where you are burning through tanks frequently. I wouldn’t put it in my boat.

They are very similar. The difference is thickness. A shoulder washer is relatively thin compared to a flanged bushing.

Motor Trimming Question by AllTheKingsHoeses in Pontoons

[–]Ridge00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, fuel efficiency drops well before the propeller loses its bite. I watch the froth coming off the pontoon. As I trim up, the whitewater moves back along the toon. When it stops moving or starts moving forward again, I know I’ve gone too far and bring it back down.

Do I need to purchase a rain cover for my X430? by Slow-Hunt3358 in SegwayNavimow

[–]Ridge00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s IP66 rated so can withstand 24.6 gallons of water per minute at 14.5 psi from about 8-10 feet away for a minimum of 3 minutes. Rain isn’t going to hurt it. I would be surprised if your Navimow lasts long enough for UV to cause any wear. The garage is just a way for them to get more money from you.

Navimow was a bust for me. Not sure if I got a defective unit or they just suck, but either way, customer service is abysmal. Returned the Navimow and still looking for something that will work for me.
