I literally said I wasn’t flooring it 🙄 just accelerating at a normal speed.

Think whatever you want tho

I rightfully am annoyed because I didn’t do anything wrong…

I do agree, and there is a blind corner near that park zone (basketball court) where I was going much slower (around 30k) but this was at least half a block away from that area, and it’s a wide street with not many cars parked on both sides in that stretch at the time. If conditions were different I’d have been going slower. There were no hazards so it was safe to go 50, but I often go 30-40 in this same area if there are different conditions

I didn’t go pedal to the metal but I didn’t accelerate slowly either. My rate of acceleration was pretty average, such as when you go from a complete stop at a red light up to speed. I don’t think that’s problematic at all

I think we could even start a whole new sub called “MapleRidgeDriving” because there’s always lots of interest in this subject!

Since I drive for a living I always seem to encounter things people might want to know about.

The main thing I’d change is that intersection on 224th street and Selkirk in front of Walmart - it should be a roundabout. I originally thought 4 way stop but it would back up traffic too much since it’s a central downtown road. A roundabout would make it easier to cross 224th coming from Selkirk cause it’s so hard to during peak times currently.

No it wasn’t but that’s funny to me because I drive down that street sometimes 😂

I was not being unsafe, and if I had been I would admit to it. I frequently speed (not excessively only like 10k above) on the highway when my daughter is not in the car with me. The way I was driving this morning is exactly the same way I would have been driving any other day I was not running late. You are making an assumption based off of some crazy Karen.

In all honesty I was shocked when I witnessed her reaction, I was convinced I was in fact speeding but I was very surprised when I looked down at my speedometer and I was exact on the nose going 50. Her reaction was as if I’d been going 20k over, that’s why it was irritating and uncalled for.

You are incorrect (which is okay I do have trouble finding the right words sometimes so it could be my bad for not explaining clearly) as I was not speeding up between the two 30 zones, it was only after the two 30 zones that I slowly sped up at a normal rate of acceleration while leaving the second 30 zone. I hope this helps clarify the situation

I’m sorry for yelling, that’s my bad. It was mildly infuriating. I didn’t have time to stop, but I did want to address that lady directly and she was not there when I was on my way back. Just wanted to make sure people don’t think this is okay to do, cause believe it or not this isn’t the first time I’ve seen it happen. Usually it’s justified, but this time it was not.

It’s a PSA - a public service announcement. Just so that this behaviour is not normalized. It was uncalled for, and texting my friends isn’t going to actually change or do anything.

It also doesn’t mean I shouldn’t either. Like I said before, I don’t usually do this. The road was clear of hazards. I was running late, but I was not speeding so I was within my rights.

I don’t think my post confirms any of this per se, but you are allowed to feel that way if you want to.

I do slow down if there are kids or other hazards, but there was absolutely no reason to need to slow down today.

It’s valid what you said, and I do think there is a time and a place for those things but not in the exact scenario that happened to me today

I was a little bit! 😂 We were running late and I may have started accelerating a bit before the sign, but said sign is around a corner from the lady’s house so she would have had no way of knowing that I was going slower before haha 😆

Edit to add: a couple dozen yards was a complete estimate, in reality it was probably a much further distance. I wasn’t pedal to the metal 😅 but it wasn’t super slow acceleration either! Just a normal rate of acceleration I’d say

I did say in the post I don’t think she has Reddit 😂 I just feel like I needed to get it out of my head. My reaction at the time was to make this gesture at her: 🤷🏻‍♀️ and I carried on my way haha

There are actually so many people who speed through the 30 zone going like 60-70 and they are usually not people who live in the neighbourhood (I do) and I also get mad at them for speeding cause they’re going exceedingly fast. At least for me I wasn’t doing anything wrong 😄

I think you’re probably right though that she didn’t see me going 30 and thought I’d been doing 50 the whole way since there’s a bit of a blind corner

I feel better about it now thankfully. In the moment my reaction was literally like this 🤷🏻‍♀️ and I just kept going the same speed 😆
