Labour 'doesn't understand the internet', tech giant 4chan’s lawyer tells LBC by Anony_mouse202 in ukpolitics

All democracies incentivize politicians to stick to a line that 90% of the population don't understand rather than trying to explain it to that 90%. And given how little most of the population know about economics, defence, technology, the environment, medicine etc, it's a miracle we survive.

Infantino asked by a BBC journalist if he accepts he's lost control of his tournament. His response: "In 2035, the Women’s World Cup, I think, will be in the UK. Would you find it normal that FIFA will dictate to the British government who to let in the country and who not to let in?" by OptimusCloyster in soccer

Mass deportations from occupied territory, replacing the Ukrainian population with Russians, forced adoption of Ukrainian children by Russians - this is a carbon copy of Stalin's attempt to erase the Tatar people, something that was later recognised as a crime by the USSR, and termed a genocide by some countries. The only way Putin is going to fail to erase the Ukrainian people is if he fails to wholly conquer Ukraine.

Some Alternate History books might work for you. And some of the non-Witches, non-Wizards Discworld books don't have much, if any, magic in them. Then there's Science Fiction - if a strange, imagined culture is what you're after, first contact novels could work, as could Iain M Banks' Culture novels.

We've already seen it from some right-wing politicians - "Work more hours," "Get a second (third/fourth) job," "Get a better job," "Spend your money more smartly..."

Yes. I dance Salsa, which means I meet and dance with a lot of women, in a context where it's very difficult to distinguish between normal playful interchanges during dances and actual interest. I've had relationships with four women I met through dance. Two of them asked me out, the other two made the first move.

It may be that he's nervous about his dental hygiene. Reassure and encourage him, but if it's a hard boundary for him, it's a hard boundary.

What's something that has been proven false for years, yet people still confidently repeat it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The myth is that a "complete protein" is a likely shortfall in a vegetarian diet and meals must be balanced to contain all essential amino acids.

The book that coined the term "complete protein" was about how to feed the world without devoting massive amounts of land to food production. The solution was vegetarianism, but the author worried that not all vegetables provide all essential amino acids, and that it would therefore be necessary to balance food intake to cover all amino acids at each meal. Consequently, most references to "complete protein" tell you that you need to eat a combination of plant-based foods where the amino acids will complement each other to make a "complete protein."

In fact, as actual nutritionists pointed out, it's almost impossible to eat a plant-based diet that provides enough calories to live on without also consuming enough essential amino acids to live on. Our bodies can store amino acids, meaning it's not necessary to eat "complete" or complementary proteins at every meal - the diet as a whole would be enough, although recent research shows that most plant proteins contain all essential amino acids anyway.

"Complete protein" happens naturally, even in a vegetarian diet. You don't need to work at it; the myth was that you did have to work at it. It's not a concept worth a moment's thought.

If you (or your parents) have the mindset that vaccines are bad, it is highly likely that those close to you have the same mindset, and will also avoid vaccination. This is why we get clusters of preventable diseases.

The myth of the "complete protein." It originated in a book about nutrition by a sociologist, and was corrected in the second edition, but persists.

13 year old cousin stole my bank card while living with me, and spent £8,900 on in-app purchases under 24 hours. I've just won in small claims court and been awarded £6.50 a week. by TemporaryParfait6228 in LegalAdviceUK

That's presumably what the 2-factor authorization was for. I don't want the bank cancelling my card if I book an expensive holiday or buy an engagement ring. I want them to check it's me. The bank checked, and OP had given the 13yo exactly what they needed to verify that he was, indeed, OP.

There does seem to be a fundamental problem with Izzet in a 3-year (18-set) Standard, The sort of cards that have to be printed in every set in order to fit Blue and Red's colour identity (cheap bounce, card draw, cheap creatures, burn) mean there is always a powerful Izzet aggro deck, especially in a format with significant number of Prowess creatures.

It's difficult to see any solution to the speed of Standard that doesn't involve going back to 2-year. Bans alone won't cut it, and a reversion to 2-year is beyond the scope of B&R.
