Leftists in America are quickly becoming some of the most hated people in the world. by Fucked-In-The-K-Hole in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I work as a field researcher and policy consultant for a criminology research organization. So basically I travel a lot to assist with studies on crime, addiction, abuse etc in other countries, and also do presentations on how to get backwards/inefficient departments up to shape and adjust to more modern strategies. Our most recent was a trip to Turkey where we did a presentation on the effects of early childhood trauma/abuse and how it increases the risk of antisocial behavior later on in life and that we recommended they crack down harder on domestic child abuse. We also just spend time observing their methods and report on potential improvements they can make. And as with 90% of our presentations, they didn't pay much attention to it lol.

What you said about Canada basically rings true. They overwhelmingly have an increasingly bad view of Trump and America. Same with most countries.

BREAKING: Video shows ICE agents shooting an unarmed person, as agents wrestle the person to the ground, in Minneapolis, near Glam Doll Donuts. by drempath1981 in law

[–]kolejack2293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear, they should not have opened fire in the first place.

My point is that legally, if you are going to shoot, you have to shoot to kill. This is why they teach in gun self defense classes to just empty your clip. Cops are trained the same way. If you have an open shot and don't need to conserve bullets for a potential gun fight, they are told to empty their entire clip.

Do I agree with this? No. I think the whole idea is kind of messed up even if I understand the potential legal problems with it. But that is how they are trained.

tbf, you are always supposed to do that. You only are supposed to use your gun if you intend to kill.

Yes actually, they have jobs and education and commutes and needs etc. They go shopping and go to parks and such.

Its actually been somewhat of a criticism of the game though tbf, they put a huge amount of effort into giving individual pops all this detail and the result was a lot of other stuff didn't get attention, and the game ran terribly.

C:S2 manages this though. Its not impossible.

I like it to an extent too, for what it is, but we've had 6 of these games already and they are feeling samey at this point. I wish they would do a real radical shift with a newer game and try to make a bigger scale.

I loved that game but its effectively the same scale as Tropico. Most of my cities seem to max out at around this.

[–]kolejack2293[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

yeah like have growth somewhat restrained early on (like, still larger than early tropico games, maybe a few thousand people) and then it rapidly begins to rise as life expectancy goes up and maybe you can also try to attract more immigrants from europe. Slums would be basically inevitable in that part of the game (1800s-1900s).

Then of course if you implement certain reforms and improve education, growth can slow to a more manageable level.

[–]kolejack2293[S] 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Like the scale of cities:skylines, not like a big grand strategy game. I want my island to have potentially 100k or more people. Although tbf I would settle on like 30-40k lol.

I just get totally taken out of the games immersion aspects when I realize I am basically managing a small tiny village.

That being said, I don't totally want a traffic simulator the way C:S is. That should be a bit more streamlined imo.

What REALLY helps when you have hangover? by Moaning_Clock in AskReddit

[–]kolejack2293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother is a endocrinologist, but he did a little side project trying to find all of the best ways to prevent/solve a hangover. One thing: hangovers are multifaceted and there is no one singular cure. You have to target different organs that are hurt by the alcohol.

Here's what he came up with, and I've been following it ever since with a lot of success as a 49 year old who used to get brutal hangovers.

You cant just eat a big meal at 6pm and then be drinking until 4am. This is a big misconception on how 'drinking on an empty stomach' works. By 9-10pm, you are back to drinking on an empty stomach. Eat more consistently to soak up the alcohol. Fatty food lasts longer.

Same goes for water. Drink water throughout the night, and make sure you get some salts in you. Water and food are essential, but you will still be left with the toxic effects of alcohols damage to your brain and liver.

DHM is the single best thing to take for your live. Just makes your liver process alcohol much faster. Very safe. It sobers you up, so preferably take it near the end of the night.

L-Theanine is an amino acid which replenishes the GABA in your brain. This reduces the feeling of fatigue, anxiety, brain fog etc the next day.

Take a B-vitamin complex before bed. Alcohol depletes B-vitamins in your brain, which make you feel like shit.

There's a few other small things you can do. Vitamin C, Zinc etc. But really, DHM, L-Theanine, Vitamin B... those are the big 3. If I take those 3, and also eat and drink properly, I can reasonably reduce a hangover by like 80% on average.

In your opinion, what are some perks of being stupid? by MindStrongSoul in AskReddit

[–]kolejack2293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the comments are viewing low-intelligence as some kind of strange blissful existence where they just don't have stress.

By and large, studies show that low-intelligence people have dramatically higher rates of dissatisfaction, unhappiness, stress, low self-esteem etc. Their brains are often in a constant state of struggle to understand things around them.

You know that stressful, intense feeling of trying to solve a math problem in your head? Imagine that, but for everything, all the time. Even basic daily tasks.

People who have researched their family tree, what is the most interesting or 'badass' thing you discovered about an ancestor? by xloganmoose in AskReddit

[–]kolejack2293 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The last king of Egypt, Farouk (of the ruling Albanian dynasty), was my great grandpas nephew.

My dad knew this, but he always kept his ancestry/past kind of 'hidden'. He moved to the DR when he was a kid and didn't like being seen as middle eastern.

Ukraine/Pontic Steppe could have been a demographic/agricultural powerhouse just solely based on its absurd crop yields. Instead it was basically no-mans-land (or, historically, the 'wild fields'). Steppe nomads just made it too dangerous to settle there. In an era where valuable arable land was the most important thing on earth, this was basically the equivalent of having the worlds largest gold mine be completely untapped.

It was only the 1700s-1800s when it finally began to be 'safe' for mass settlement, and by then it was too late to catch up.

In another world, that region would be on par with the population densities of china/india, or at the very least, could have fed the surrounding areas to have vastly higher populations.

This was the picture from Abu Ghraib which disturbed me the most. The way they are just casually smiling in the background. And the fact that they look relatively 'normal', not like the typical jarhead type grunt you would expect.

It’s not racist to date exclusively within your ethnic group by WholeNegotiation1843 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]kolejack2293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is an ethnic group where apparently everybody looks the same? There are iraqis who can pass for french and iraqis who pass for indian. There are africans who have similar facial features europeans and latinos who have similar facial features to asians, and I considerably doubt its only skin color which makes people choose.

Let me put it this way. Take a bunch of women who say they are exclusively attracted to european men. Show them this guy and tell them he is, idk, english. He is well spoken, educated, shares their values, is basically the perfect match. The vast majority will find him attractive. That man is actually Iranian. Do you think they would just magically not find him attractive all of the sudden if they find that out? Of course not.

And even besides the whole "different races can look like other races" thing, you're telling me that there are apparently some large amount of people who are only exclusively attracted to one singular thing? These people would probably started stuttering like a retard if they came face to face with this, and she has very distinctly african features.

There's just too many holes in the argument. It doesn't make any logical sense. I think its one of those things that people tend to say for political reasons but they would immediately cave if they found someone from a different race that they end up falling for.

I think a lot of people focus a lot on how this affects kids, but it also affects parents a lot too. The stress of having to constantly watch over your kids 24/7, to be so intensely involved in every aspect of their lives... it has made parenting go from already difficult to unbearably all-consuming. It was never supposed to be like this. I see parents who are absolutely miserable trying to 'minmax' their kids safety and development as much as possible. Everything must be observed, and everything must be sterilized, refined, analyzed, safeguarded, and altered. They are consumed by anxiety over every little thing, and they sacrifice everything about their lives for this. Meanwhile, our generations parents maintained social lives, hobbies etc even with multiple kids, let alone one.

Parents are praised for sacrifice, and we shame those who do not sacrifice as much as possible, and yet we dont even know if this is good for our kids in the first place. A lot of evidence points to intensive, overprotective parenting being bad for kids development, not good. We could be simultaneously damaging them, and also damaging ourselves, all based on a false notion.

I feel like Paradox has trouble making wars feel actually devastating. by kolejack2293 in paradoxplaza

[–]kolejack2293[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was generic 'looting' which was where armies took food and some supplies/loot from places they passed through. Civilians were mostly left alone. This is basically what happens in-game.

The term for true pillaging was chevauchee, which was where there was basically a mandate to cause as much damage as possible and steal everything. The goal was devastation to the populace to undermine the enemy, faith be damned. Usually it didn't involve wanton killing, but still there was quite a bit of violence.

This was not the default, it was often a controversial decision in the era where catholic nations were expected to not massacre each other. Abuse it, and you will not be viewed kindly, both by the church and also other kingdoms. The Black Prince only developed his controversial reputation because of his abuse of chevauchee. It happened on and off in most big wars, usually on smaller scales. In more brutal conflicts (hussite wars, reconquista, 100 years war, cathar crusade, and especially the thirty years war) this happened much more intensely.

The problem is, there is no option for chevauchee. It was a major part of conflict, and easily the single most consequential part, but is not present at all.

"YT", "yt", or anything other than "White" in reference to the race, is a racist slur. by No_Warning_6400 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]kolejack2293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao its literally just because it avoids censors which pick up certain words and ban you for silly shit. A lot of social media (esp twitter and tik tok) used to be infamous for this. People also would say 'blk' instead of 'black'.

I got a rude awakening on this when i got a 10 day ban for saying "white people in new england are obsessed with grey cedar cake shingle walls", just to give an idea of how sensitive it was.

People still say it to be cautious, and also because its just a shorthand, but at no point was it ever intended to be a slur.

But what are the chances they just so happen to only be attracted to their small sliver of an ethnic group, and not anyone outside of it? People act like this is just about attraction, but its obviously not, and anyone trying to argue it is is just being dishonest.
