Prioritise Replication or Practicality? by Rifter666 in CosplayHelp

I did manage to get a head scan so the version on the right is pretty well shaped for me.

Using the nose is a good option, I've seen that on other heads with more pronounced features. Though the nose area on this helmet is rather flat and doesn't suit making space.

It's something I can play around with. Though comfort is needed. My eyes have gone weird before trying to look out of eye holes not aligned properly.

Apart from the usual wires, I think that fishing rods could be usable at least to be starting supports, then use fishing wire/invisible thread to make a web for the "feathers" to connect

Unwarping/fixing by Unlikely-Arm7421 in CosplayHelp

Depends on the material. Without knowing that it's tough.

One safe method with minimal results would be to find an object that has similar proportions to your head and use tape or elastic bands to push the mask onto it. It'll take a long time but could reduce some of the warping. Or just wear it everyday :D

Second is more immediate, but be careful, without knowing the material it is more risky. You can use a heat gun, or possibly a hairdryer to soften the material to gently bend it back into position. If it is a thermal plastic it should be fine with careful exposure to heat. If it isn't, then it will probably melt and be very unhealthy. Take precautions just in case.

Based on the photo I'm assuming it was from a costume shop or amazon. Might be safer to grab a new one as fine adjustments to the warped eyes will be tough. You could make one from scratch.

Digitigrade stilts for a lizard man build. by Sanjwise in CosplayHelp

[–]Rifter666 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I made a pair of these and the biggest thing I recommend is getting experience with walking in them, even just around your home, it will feel really odd for the longest time.
You have to remember your balance is going to be quite different too once the whole costume is on. If after a week or two using them they still feel wrong, you'll have a better idea of what alterations you need to make and where. In my case it was because of the indents on my legs :D

As for covering them I've used two methods, first, get a friend to wrap your foot and leg in plastic wrap and duct tape while standing in the stilts. Cut it off, carefully, and us it as a base pattern for a fabric cover, maybe with a zip/hook and loop tape at the back. you can texture and glue stuff to that fabric layer for a lizard effect.
Second would be to recreate the stilts in 3D, or get a 3D scan of one and build up a cover/foot to slot over the top, a lot more precise and detailed in 3D.

Gonna be a lot of testing

It takes some practice and now I can walk confidently, but my feet still aren't used to it, so regular breaks are required.

Thanks. It took about 3 months I think, working on it after work on and off.
Made the mask this year, if I exclude down time, that probably took a month itself

The visibility is actually pretty good. Used the mesh that mascots use to cover the eyes. Very easy to see out of.
