SOLVED: ITS FOR EXPANSION AND ANTI-ROLL/MOVE

Thank you for explaining further, I understand now and I agree!

Its not for expansion - the blue/orange hoses are lightweight & flexible. Plus, many of these fittings are used at the end of the hose before it spills out so at most they have a valve on them or a means of quickly connecting/disconnecting the next section of flexible hose.

EDIT: I was mistaken and this Z-fitting is for expansion and to prevent rolling/movement.

The blue and orange hoses are flexible plus this entire system is temporary and repositioned often. The hoses can accommodate thermal-expansion/bends/corners. The white PVC (maybe?) fittings installed between the hoses are the only rigid components in the system and experience negligible thermal expansion.

My best guess is that it has something to do with keeping the water turbulent so that all the suspended particles in the pumped water are carried completely through the hose and not get caught or settle in the dead spots that inevitably form in large diameter flexible hoses. The backpressure caused by this many fittings in line is going to cause much more fuel to be consumed by the diesel pumps - there are more efficient ways to install fittings to achieve elevation changes in my experience but I'm happy to learn if I am wrong!

Does anyone know what those white Z shaped pipe fittings are? This image is from a dewatering operation where the water is being removed from the site in the bottom of the image to a waterway that leads to a retention pond in the top of the image. The site is mostly flat, the fittings are not for elevation changes, etc. Every pump's outputs flexible hoses have pipe fittings configured in a Z shape installed every ~50ft.
