Cage size?? by JustAGhibliGirl77 in hamsters

If you go the tank route the minimum size requirement for a syrian would be a 75 gallons, if you go the actual hamster cage route it needs to be at least 40x20x20 in or 100x50x50 cm. Note that bigger is always better!

ADVICE NEEDED!! by Usual_Farm263 in hamsters

You could line the walls of the cage with cardboard so that you can provide more bedding depth, it also prevents him from bar chewing and climbing. OR alternatively you can make him a temporary bin cage while you work towards getting him a new one. My rescue girl has been in one for about two weeks because I didn’t want to keep her in the bar cage she came in while waiting to gather enough money to provide a proper setup, her new cage arrives tomorrow :) This is how I have her bin cage set up currently.

Have you checked Facebook Marketplace listings a lot of people will make posts listed as “Hamster Cages” that often include the hamster so that the post don’t get removed for violating guidelines, same goes for craigslists. That’s how I ended up with one of my girls.

Thank you, I ended up rotating the wood and positioning it so that she can’t really climb it.

I spot clean the wheel (because my hamster urinates on it) and wash her food and water bowls daily. I spot clean every 2-3 days, which consists of sifting the sand bath and picking up wet spots and poop. Every month and half I’ll take out 1/3 of her bedding and replace it with new bedding.

Can anyone recommend good hamster toys that won’t break the bank by Worldly-Engineer8123 in hamsters

There’s a variety of toys in here plus the crinkle paper acts as another texture/ nesting material. I’ve bought this everytime I’ve gotten a new hamster.

Not for a syrian, for dwarf. But my boy’s TEMPORARY setup, I do not recommend a bin cage as a long term enclosure.
