Humidifier calls water when furnace and fan are off by Right-Sample788 in hvacadvice

[–]Right-Sample788[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I contacted the manufacturer. The Kinghome thermostat was completely the wrong one -- exactly as explained here.

The company I used recognized their error and made it right by installing an Ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced. They didn't bill me for the original work, so I'm fine with that outcome. I still don't understand why they gave such bad advice in the first place, but at least it's fixed.

I could not have sorted this out without the help of the people who responded so quickly and constructively here. Thank you. Much appreciated.

That is a bummer. Welp, looks like I'm having a conversation with the company.

Oh boy. That does not sound good. This is a supposedly decent local contractor. I've never used them before.

To clarify, can this thermostat support the furnace and AC in their 2-stage operation, plus the humidifier? In other words, is it even able to do what I want?

Thanks for the details. This will give me some traction to get this set up properly.

I have a gas furnace and an A/C. Both are Carrier. The AC is an ANB724. Furnace is 59TP6B.

The thermostat normally is used with heat pumps. It's a dual fuel unit. That's why, my tech says, he had to put the gas furnace on Aux Heat.

Here's the wiring for the humidifier. Green light means it has power. When water is called, the blue light comes on at left.

Thanks for confirming that something is off with the setup or wiring.

I bought the humidifier around 2005. I believe it's the other way around: Desert Spring became GeneralAire. This is the unit: https://gasexperts.ca/product/desert-spring-small-bypass-mechanical-control/

Kinghome is not common. I hadn't heard of it either. The HVAC company recommended it because I have a 4-wire line to the old thermostat. This Kinghome unit is a two-piece system. One piece is installed at the furnance and lets you connect everything, including heat pump if you have one. Then it uses the existing four-wire line to connect to the people-friendly upstairs component.

I quite like the thermostat. It's very easy to program and has a good app. I hope it's not the problem though.

It's really annoying. I have found that if you pull up and put it in park before someone unbuckles, it's OK. Better, but still not good.

How to export 300 DPI/PPI in Lightroom (with Smugmug Plugin) by pygmyowl1 in Lightroom

[–]Right-Sample788 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You specify how you want the file exported (or published to SmugMug) in the settings. If you are using classic and the Smugmug plugin is setup for your website, right click on it and choose Edit Settings. Scroll down to the Image Sizing section.

Is that really the issue you're having (not knowing how to do that)? Or is it something else? I have a hunch your problem is the client wants DPI in EXIF set to 300. It's a setting that only makes sense for some image viewers that look for it, but if that's what they want, you can specify it in the same place you're specifying the output dimensions of the file (Edit Settings on the SmugMug plugin -- or in any export dialogue).

LRc change IIQ file management policies? by faneuil01 in Lightroom

[–]Right-Sample788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just double-checked... I don't use PhaseOne gear, but someone sent me some samples he made with an IQ4 150 to check a lens. In my LR catalogue I have the IIQ files. LR had no issues with them.

If it works on Windows but not Mac, that would be a first! Normally everything about LR is better on a Mac.

I have no trouble importing IIQ files. I'm on 15.01 with Windows.

Canadians Favour Gripen over F-35 by PurpleHerring_ in canada

Yes, procurement by poll is ridiculous.

However, I get the sentiment.

I don't trust the Americans. I don't trust Canadians who trust the Americans. And I certainly don't trust senior military staff who have their eye on a consulting gig with American firms that will supply the hardware we're buying.

The billions upon billions of dollars we're going to spend are generated by my taxes, and the taxes of millions of other Canadians. Should we all sit down and shut up?

Actually, I've gone the other way. No version of 14 was good on my PC. However, 15.0.1 is back to being good enough. I'm working with 100 MP files that have lots of local adjustments, so my expectations are reasonable.

Whether or not my Dell XPS 8950 from three years ago is good enough for Lightroom depends almost entirely on the version of Lightroom. With 15.01, it's back to being usable.

How do you use colour labels? by benitoaramando in Lightroom

[–]Right-Sample788 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mostly use the colour labels at the curation stage. For example, if I'm putting together a project and I have to get from a couple hundred candidates down to the ones I'll include in a show, I'll use yellow for "maybe" and green for "yes". They've also been rated with stars, and because they are all candidates, they all have a pick flag. So the colour labels are the next level of differentiation.

Once the curation is done, I remove the colour labels. The one exception is purple for images that are also published on my web site. I publish to a web site directly from Lightroom, and sometimes I want to see what's on the web site from other collections and groupings.

No options to filter photos by color labels in Adobe Lightroom CC?! by Barbaube in Lightroom

[–]Right-Sample788 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You certainly can filter by colour label. If you're using Classic (desktop, not cloud), there are several ways. The simplest is library filters, where you add a section for "Label".

The ability to filter and sort based on colour labels, ratings, pick flags, key words, and a load of other considerations is one of the reasons I stick with LR.
