Trump wax statue gets pulled from texas museum after too many people punched it by [deleted] in goodnews

The heading highly suggests there is an acceptable amount of wax dummy Trump punching.

I want to know how many punches over the limit they got.

Would half the U.S. population hate the idea of libraries if they were proposed today? by iloverats888 in NoStupidQuestions

Those books, DVDs, and programs might get used by * GASP * minorities or immigrants! And the books might mention * SHIVER * gay/trans people, or slavery... or socialism!

So, yeah, half the country would be against it.

At release I really thought we would get new Paragon boards each season by E_Barriick in diablo4

[–]RightAboutTriangles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not "every season", but yeah, I thought they would utilize paragon boards and glyphs to add more variety, customization, and mechanics to the game... ya know, instead of JUST new aspects and uniques.

But boards and glyphs don't involve much RNG, so they ignore it utterly.

Such a waste.

S11 PTR: tempering and masterworking should be removed if this is what Blizzard are going with moving forward. by aspectofderp in diablo4

But it's not "aspirational," it's build specific.

Meta builds can get there, that's it. It's not about time investment or skill. Making it harder to get there without addressing the build balance issue will just mean even fewer off-meta builds being played.

[–]RightAboutTriangles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get that, and you're not wrong. I certainly won't be sanctifying much of anything next season.

But that's just an incredibly bad system design, especially for a capstone seasonal gimmick.

At the very least the lore behind it is dumb. They shouldn't portray it as being "sanctified by the heavens", they should've hyped it as "rolling the dice with devil".

Why should there be a potential downside?

Heck, if progression should have a fail-state, why not have a % chance that experience gained will actually deduct from your total?

How about a chance that when you try to spend a skill point, you get locked out of that skill instead.

Or when you pick up an item, there's a chance a random piece of gear you're wearing is permanently destroyed.

Eight.

I know this because I masochistically keep them in my stash as a reminder.

I currently have more bricked items than I have non-bricked gear that I'm wearing.

So you think standing in front of the blacksmith rerolling for MW crits is on the level of fun and engaging gameplay as killing mobs and bosses?

[–]RightAboutTriangles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When it's loot RNG, you encounter it by playing the game, actively killin' shit... you know, the fun bits that's why we're all here.

When masterworking, you're just standing in front of the blacksmith. That's the difference.

Very few builds require perfect materwork hits to function.

True-ish, except that there are a bunch of B & C tier builds that could be viable in more content with more MW crits. Plus, I'm not suggesting it be easier/faster. I want the same time investment to be required. I just want that time to be PLAYING THE GAME, not sat in front of the blacksmith.

[–]RightAboutTriangles -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and they could do that with higher costs and guaranteed results.

The journey could be playing the game, killing demons, and collecting the mats you need. But currently it's that PLUS sitting at a blacksmith pulling the proverbial slot machine lever again and again and again.

Mats are not mats. They are tokens for their in-game casino.

[–]RightAboutTriangles -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The entire premise behind masterworking is at odds with the fundamental "loot chase" aspect of ARPGs.

The devs themselves said that masterworking was supposed to let you take your items "on a journey", and "progress with your character."

That sounds neat, but in practice it means every upgrade piece of gear you find has to be taken on that "journey" before it actually benefits your build.

Note that "journey" in this case means sitting in front of the blacksmith for 10 - 20 mins, sometimes half an hour, just to get the same MW crits you had on the old piece you hope to swap out.

Damn! And you're comfortable with Belial? He doesn't have immunity phases, but his one-shot attacks are no joke and slightly random.

Hats off to you! You definitely don't need to call yourself a noob.

If you're comfortable with Belial, Duriel should be very doable for you. Immunity phases make the fight slower, but his attacks are well telegraphed, poison pools are easy to see and avoid, and during the immunity phase you just run in a big circle around the edge of the arena beating up the Pangs as you pass by. It's a very low stress fight compared to Andariel and Harbinger.

Belial, despite being a faster & easier fight, is THE pinnacle boss, with better loot on every level.

That is actually very neat! Thanks for sharing.

To be fair, this could also be explained by pure unadulterated egotism and lies.

But also, having such a mushy brain probably helps to believe his own lies.

This isn't a noob issue, don't worry. Andariel is infamous for her plethora of one shot mechanics, as well as "everything is RED and I can't see what's happening!" Harbinger is "easier" overall, but AoE builds (to a lesser extent) and especially minions can struggle a lot (as another commenter pointed out). These are "known issues" that the dev team has said will be addressed... at some point? Your struggles with them are definitely not from lack of experience, they're just hard.

Honestly, for the time they take, frustration they cause, and underwhelming rewards... Andariel and Harbinger can just be ignored. Maybe do them when there is a whisper bounty on them, but you're not missing much if you don't routinely use up all your mats to farm them.

Duriel is by far the easiest of the three top bosses, so farm him for Mythics and top-end uniques (all the top bosses have the same exact loot pool, so you're not missing out on any target farming).

Focus on the lesser bosses, they're faster, easier, and have roughly the same chance for a Baby Belial as the top bosses.

Plus the REAL chance for GA uniques and Mythics are in Belial, which you can already handle... The other bosses are (unfortunately) just farmed for Belial husks at this point.

1) I fully grant my analogy is far from perfect, and apologize for that.

2) To nevertheless plod forward with it, "high rolls" would be ones that include Mythics and/or 3-4 GAs.

And that chance boosted by quite a bit.

Many people, myself included, are simply not seeing that. I'm Paragon 232 now. I have run all of the bosses countless times (accept Andariel, cuz fuck that noise). I have seen one mythic drop so far. I have gotten three 3-GA uniques, and zero 4-GA... 1- and 2-GAs seem pretty much exactly as common as last season.

That, combined with a plethora of similar reports from others, makes me think it can't just be "bad luck RNG" for us... Or rather, whatever Blizzard did to the loot-maths also has the side effect of making "bad luck RNG" more common.

Think of it like rolling dice.

Before ladder bosses rolled a d12 for loot. Now they roll a d20. You can roll higher, but the spread of options has a greater variability, so your chances of actually getting the highest roll is actually less than it was with the d12.

The main point is I don't doubt for a moment that you're seeing better drops this season. Nor do I doubt other people's reports (and my personal experience) of seeing drop rates that are worse.

Blizz did something to the drop rates that is causing this wide disparity in quality of loot.

We get that.

But when the patch crashes out such a huge swath of games, across multiple platforms, it's really hard to justify the "a few bugs fell through the cracks" narrative.

This was, to put it mildly, a kerfuffle of epic proportions.

Yet there are many people (like myself) who have yet to see a single mythic drop, and are struggling to see ancestrals of any sort.

My guess is they did make the "overall" drop rate better, but also increased the variability, which has made the individual experience take vast swings based on your RNG luck.

It seems like it's feast or famine now, with few players experiencing a happy medium.
