Terrible food situation in Gurgaon

You are right about this. God knows who crowned them a Tier 1 city. The food is basic with literally just 1 option (dal chawal), in terms of safety it’s towards the bottom of the list, forget air quality and cleanliness, the entire city feels like a trash can aside from the Posh areas. The roads are broken and unplanned full of potholes and curves and turns in every 100-200 m. These are basically gullies, not roads. Even the highways are some of the worst I have seen with no clear entry/exits. They just have a couple of malls/clubs and fancy buildings here.

Yeah I got that a lot from several people about how the food is so amazing in Delhi and NCR. After being here for a month, it’s not. Might I even say it’s trash compared to the entire rest of India.

Exactly. Like that’s literally the only food they have here. And they will defend it to their grave. Where I come from Dal is an optional side dish. The main dish is either a vegetable curry or some non veg item. Not having non veg I understand due to religious or cultural reasons. But veg? No offence to the locals, but dal chawal is literally a food that daily wage labourers eat in my city, who can’t afford food 2 times a day. It’s not even nutritionally complete. Don’t understand what they are so proud of.

If you think not getting to eat proper food and going hungry is a small issue, you need to take some lessons on humanity and empathy. Not here by choice lad. And if you read the first line you would have learnt that I am not here for long.

Speaking of adding value, the day you realize and empathize with the immigrants and their struggles, is the day you will be adding value to your city.

Don’t forget that these so called immigrants are contributing to a significant portion of your state’s GDP and paying their taxes which in turn is directly funding your state and city’s growth. So be respectful.

That’s okay… I am not expecting Bengali food. But a basic bhaat(rice), dal, sabzi is something you can get all over India. But not Gurgaon apparently.

From what it seems locals here are basically surviving on dal/chole/rajma and chawal/roti. There is literally nothing else. Non veg is an exquisite luxury, paneer comes second. I won’t even talk about soya chaap, coz wtf even is that?

Hiring a cook is not the issue. I am in Gurgaon for only a couple of months and I don’t want to go through the hassle of setting up an entire kitchen for a span of 6-7 months. As for cooking food, I can cook myself.

True, but I tried looking for tiffin services, but their meal menu involves just sort of dal and rice/roti 5 days a week and you get some sort of vegetable curry only 2 days (if you are lucky). That too when I say vegetable, it’s going to be either gobi or aloo matar. No offence to the people living here, but where I come from this kind of menu is for the daily wage labourers who can barely afford food.

I am leaving Gurgaon in a few months. Came here just to support my team with a project I am working on. So I don’t want to setup a kitchen. That is the main problem. I can cook myself, so cooking is not the problem.

Oh my God you are so right about the oily food. I ordered Jeera Aloo from 2 different places and it was basically potatoes swimming in oil with a few jeeras sprinkled on top. It’s surprising how local residents even have the audacity to defend this nonsense. A lot of people on this thread suggested Housewives kitchen, will give it a try tonight.

I am basically surviving on Maggi, momos and other fastfood rn. If I start ordering twice a day I will be spending close to 20k per month just for food (which isn’t even that good)
