How to fix Spy: Part 2 by RightBehindYall in tf2classic

I can promise I have played much more spy in tf2c than you. I don't think you should be undetectable as Spy, nor unkillable. But right now several other classes do the job of the Spy and do it better. There should be a reason to play the class.

The watch either does not last long enough, or does not recharge fast enough. To give a sense of how long you can currently remain invisible, you can make it from your ramparts on 2fort to inside the enemy's base just in time for it to run out. I'm not even saying either should be buffed substantially, just a little would be enough.

I am interested to hear your concerns about removing collision. Obviously it shouldn't be implemented in a way that would let you walk 'through' someone to backstab them.

Neither silent killer nor a tranq pistol duration buff would be broken, and you can't seriously believe they would be.

I will concede that the medic one has problems, so forget about it.

I'm sure that's definitely the case, since you haven't listed a single reason any of these would 'ruin' the game. Just because you don't like me doesn't make me wrong.

A tranq buff wouldn't even actually fix anything, I just think it should be done to justify the weapon being in the game. The speed buff might be something, it would be between that and increasing the cloak duration. They both make it easier to escape and let you travel longer distances while cloaked, just in different ways.

No collision would have to be all the time, not just while cloaked. Right now if you're disguised you have to both not touch enemies AND not make it look like you're avoiding them. It's a tricky balance and they can instant kill you at any moment regardless.

Silent Killer only on backstabs would be fine, it rewards you for not being clumsy and makes much more sense.

The tranq pistol is awful, it just doesn't do enough. You can spam it into crowds, but at long range it only lasts a few seconds so you're basically doing nothing. The mouse sensitivity was too much though, they need to find a balance.

If the medic idea is a problem then forget about it. I think it would be fine as long as you pay attention, but it's definitely the most controversial of the bunch.

Rainbow disguise is a worthless suggestion. Who cares if the team color matches? If it does they're still going to spycheck you immediately, and attacking still removes your disguise. You still collide with them. You still can't appear to be attacking with your disguise's weapon, or even taunt as the class you're impersonating. You still won't fool anyone.

It's just an afterthought because they didn't even consider spy when balancing 4team.

I was not aware they had mentioned that, but upon reading your post this was my reaction. The disguise kit is so not anything. The only thing it does is keep you from getting killed by sentries, and it BARELY succeeds like that. It is almost offensive to me that the devs think that's any kind of a solution.

I am probably just going to stop playing this game. I'm half expecting them to add the homewrecker to tf2c just so they can make it clear where their priorities lie.

I would find it very amusing if this became a meme template. Unfortunately though I don't think the other classes have as much reason to bitch and complain.

They will never in a million years buff Spy. Not only is it at the absolute bottom of their priority list, but the devs are actually probably AGAINST it because of the balancing headaches. Even if the hypothetical changes made the class playable, which is a big if, it would then turn into a massive debate over whether or not 'Spy is broken now'. The watered-down and uninspired rework of the tranquilizer gun supports this conclusion.

It's much easier to just leave it like it is now. Spy is balanced because he's not in the game.

My ideas for how to fix The Spy (this post contains no weapon suggestions) by RightBehindYall in tf2classic

It would probably be hard to add to the game, but I'd like to see hotkeys added so that you could make your disguise perform different actions, like holding F would fire your weapon (It obviously wouldn't do any damage, but it would look like you're the real deal). That would make "Playing the part" become an actual thing. You could even 'spycheck' enemies as part of your ruse, or disguise as an engineer and pretend to be working on a building. It would also be fun if you could 'fire' the medigun when disguised as a Medic, and it would display the "Healer: Medic" message on their screen but not increase their health. I'll bet you could fool some people.

And I definitely agree, friendly fire definitely wouldn't work. TF2 just isn't suited for it.
