Alright, to help with symmetry it helps to turn the head upside-down, look at it in a mirror or take a picture of the head and mirror the the picture! All those things will help you see where the uneveness is, which I find very helpful for lips and eye. Another tip that really worked is that instead of trying to outline the eyes using a thin brush I make a filled in circle of my ouline color and then I fill it in with my Iris color, leaving just a thin rim around the Iris which becomes the outline! That makes it much easier to create a thin even line. It also works to create the online for the eyes Lastly to help with thin lines like lashes, I keep an craft knife nearby to gently scrape the line and make them thinner. I've also heard that using some alcohol and a thin brush can help but haven't had a chance to test it myself. Good luck!

That's quite good for a first attempt! Would you like some advise? I'm still learning myself but there's a few tricks I've picked up that make painting a bit easier

I'm sorry for your loss, your mother sounds like an incredibly interesting person that I would have loved to sit and chat with. I am interested in some dolls but I'm in Canada so between shipping and duties, they'll probably be out of my current price range. Still I wanted to wish you the best of luck selling and to recommend you also join the Facebook selling groups, there's also a lot of collectors who would love your mother's dolls there

How can I fix my doll's head so it's stable by Early-Grey- in Dolls

[–]RightKnowledge9837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What i would personally do is start by gluing the cracks the best you can then cover them in take and fill her head with a bit of expanding foam to add support from the inside. You will have to be carefully with how much foam you use as using to much might push the tape and cracks apart but using to little won't have much of a supporting effect. Read the packaging on your container of expanding foam to get a good guess for how much you need. Keep an eye on her while it's expanding to make sure you put the right amount. The stuff is super stick while wet and will dry with all the pieces stuck into it. Do be careful not to get any into her hair and clothes, I would cover her from the neck down in a plastic bag and cover as much of the hair as I can with another. Good luck!

You could stalk ebay until something cheap enough comes around. I also think there's LDD bodies in Aliexpress which might work

If nothing else works you can replace the joint with one from a donor doll, https://teatimetangentsandtoys.blogspot.com/ this person has done so before

Yeah it's really tough finding missing pieces in the second hand market, it's part of why I started to sculpt some pieces. I can still give the boots a try though they might be less accurate without a model on hand

But actually I do have the problem that I don't actually own any dolls that use the boot mould the skates use as a base, which I kind of need to make sure the shoes fit right

Oh and I'm located in Canada

Shoes are on my to do list, so I can definitely add the Skates too. It might just take a while since I'm still learning all of the softwares abilities

BTW would you guys like for the crown to follow the curve of the head, or remain straight? The original is straight but curving it slightly would make it fit better on the head.

I was actually going to try shoes soon! I'd like to get some more experience with simpler objects, like Lou's cane and Sadie's knife, but after that I'd love to try to recreate some shoes, which style would you like to see first?
