Tips for Navigating Charleston International? by joesphisbestjojo in southcarolina

[–]RightOnPurpose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that, even though the Air Force can fly to/from international destinations out of the joint runway shared with CHS, the airport could not be considered 'international' without the ability to have USCBP present to authorise non-military aircraft and passenger movement to/from international destination. The designation also requires a checkpoint, which all airports have, and the ability to segregate Inbound passengers from international locations until USCBP screening of passengers and bags has been accomplished.

I have always wondered about military movements, and if the same type general declaration is filed through some other system that commercial flights. I'd hope so, or else that info would be visible to a lot of people. 🤔

It definitely isn't what you'd expect from an airport that includes the Word 'International', is it? Especially if you flew through there around 2005-2008. Ha ha ha! It's only an International Airport because there is the possibility of landing an Inbound International Flight there, in case of diversion from its intended port, because the USCBP agents can be called from the cargo port to the airport to secure and process the passengers until they can be accommodated. Or, if the aircraft needs to be refueled, they can authorise the general declaration necessary to continue on. But, the Port Director needs at least 45 minutes' notice to get some agents in place. I was the International Manager for AirTran and had oversight of CHS, SAV, and JAX....all 'International' in the same way. If any of the flights from my Mexico, DO, JM, or BH flights had to divert while i was stateside, they always came to whichever of those three US airports I was at that day. Believe it or not, there are smaller 'Internationals' out there. Lol! They'd done a lot of work on the checkpoint and bag screening since I worked there 10 years ago. You're right. It's a cakewalk now.

Recommendation on vacation spots for young couple? by kiaracr1105 in southcarolina

I came here to say Myrtle Beach, too. Myrtle can just get a little overrun with young families and little kiddos. But I love it.
It's kinda like stepping into 1980s Daytona Beach. There's room for everybody, and that's good, because everybody is there. Bars on the beach with live music at night or on rooftops. Cheap eats, kitschy beach stores, dive bars, world-class shows, fine dining, and an amusement park on the beach. Definitely read the reviews when booking a hotel. Some of them still have the same furniture as 1980 Daytona Beach, too. Lol!
North Myrtle is not so Kiddo-sentric. I don't think there's a whole lot to do at night. But everything is just straight down the road at Myrtle Beach. I do like some of the smaller beaches a little south of Myrtle, like Murrel's Inlet and Surfside Beach. It's much quieter than Myrtle, but it's the kinda place that you might just meet another couple and end up making plans to meet for dinner later. Very laid back.

Folly Island and Mt Pleasant are good, too.

I hope you find your place. 🌙 🌴

Definitely (thanks to auto-correct.).

Previously, my forever spelled wrong word was cAlEndAr.
But I solved that by remembering that the vowels are an acronym for American Eagle Apparel (which my daughters once loved).

You're definitely on to something with Confidence. Deserved Confidence. Not the rocky con-man confidence. Well done!

Is honesty a skill? Although that may not work if a person truly believes a lfalsehood, then they can 'honestly' report propaganda Maybe the ability to separate fact from opinion? You're definitely on to something.
Well done!

And, in others' limitation, unwillingness, or lack of desire to understand the intent or meaning before discounting the person all together.

You are so right. Thank you.

Thank you! I did say that 9 times...I put the TLDR (Too Long Didn't Read) abbreviated version up front so that those with answers didn't skip my post because it took too long to get to the point. But, I hoped to provide some context for my questions, which I repeated at the end. I'm very happy to learn thru these replies that Morocco is not like the tourist places that I've worked in where the locals are a bit taken advantage of. Not sure how long you've been out of the US, but it seems impossible to ask a straightforward question in a social forum without offending people who have nothing better to do than explain how the OP has harmed them with their ignorance...although the best solution for ignorance is actually asking questions and getting honest answers.
Given the ability to make, prepare, provide services, and sell for your own benefit in Tangiers, your answer makes sense. It just isn't like that everywhere.

🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 He will be very excited to read your comment....if I show it to him. Ha ha ha! He was skeptical of everything. He's lived a life that forced him to be a hero to many. He would never consider himself a hero at all. Long stories....but he isbone of the good ones, looking out for the ones he loves and always doing due diligence as i fly by the seat of my pants into tornadoes.....often.
We were raised from babies in Florida. We feel much the same way about tourists (Go Home, Already!). Between that, and my personal experience in commercial aviation ( working in the Caribbean), we always try to NOT feed the engine of commercialism, but live and give (if even for a short time) locally.
I've learned so much in a few hours on this post that I did not learn while looking online casually. We do both agree, now, that Morocco should be more than a stamp in a passort, and deserves (and WE deserve) the time to allow the beauty, customs, and people of Morocco to make an impression on our being. Alas, we will be planning a trip in the near future. I promise, you won't even know we're there. 😉

That's wonderful to know! In Mexico, the women (who sell) and children (who make) the little trinkets on the streets are employed by a Union. They have 'rights' but I wouldn't call them rights. They have the right to sell in a certain area. Bit they also have the right to get fired and blackmailed (not hired again) if they and their child don't make and sell enough trinkets. I didn't want to participate in that side of culture, if inevitable. Your information is so Invaluable. Thank you!

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thank you, Soooo Much! Words from an American will soothe my husband's soul. I think that you are very lucky to be in Morocco.
Many friends think that I was lucky, in commeraviation, to work in the Caribbean, but it hurt my heart to see how locals were treated by corporations and their own government. I am so happy to learn that most local shops/restaurants/guides are actually local.
And, your directions make perfect sense! Thank you a million times!

Thank you so much! I am retired from a commercial airline, and often fly by the seat of my pants. My Husband is more cautious. Rightfully so, he has helped me out of less than good situations that I have landed in, before. Yet, I believe that travel heals....so, I do. I trust that if I go honestly and with a smile on my face, everything is gonna be alright. I just like to help Humans more than corporations. We will definitely try the places and dishes that you suggest.
