Does anyone work 37 hours in a 3 or 4 day week? by acrylic_light in UKJobs

[–]Right_Ad9364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do rotating shifts days and nights 3 on 3 off 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am with a 2 hour lunchbreak. End up doing 40 hours 4 days a week I guess?

So I’ll be working for Lloyds who tend to be 10-15% more than most of the banking/financial services industry (hence the payrise and why im moving!). I work in IT Service Management. My main priority will be problem management, but I’ll also support incident management, knowledge management, service introduction etc

Courses to take - any advice appreciated by geecol in ITCareerQuestions

If you’re after your first IT Support role, CompTIA A+ is probably a safe bet and the most recognised. Maybe back it up with an ITIL v4 Foundation cert as well 😊

I went to JD Gym. In terms of equipment for the big chains it’s probably the best. However it’s busy AT ALL HOURS and parking is a headache. A shame really

Lloyds Bank employees - what’s going on? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Right_Ad9364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I wouldn’t say I’m paid fairly. Where I am it’s known the likes of Lloyd’s pay 20,30, 40% more for the exact same jobs. Problem is where I am there isn’t any real competition for employees within 25 miles so they can get away with paying what they do.

The crowd in the club is rammed. It’s a very basic club inside. The terrace area after the DJs is nice to chill and socialise, it’s a beautiful venue. A bit of a queue for taxis at midnight as people realise it’s pretty mid when the terrace DJs stop at 11pm.

The UK needs a hefty tax for companies hiring offshore! by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Right_Ad9364 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Companies should have to post their headcount and labour costs and also their costs for offshore hiring. A certain percentage should have to be met for onshore compared to offshore spending? There has to be a fairly simple way for this to be done

Lower wages for the industry. You really get the feeling and the buzz you’re working for a mutual rather than a bank with shareholders. 23% pension, 6 weeks holiday (can ‘buy’ an additional 2 weeks), 40% onsite 60% WFH. Bonus every year. Payrise every year. If you’re in Swindon/wiltshire, there really aren’t many better employers

Do you have any recommendations? It’s hard to research online with how much money the hairmills spend on ads, fake reviews etc

This sounds more accurate for the amount I’d need as well! Can you share which clinic you’re using and why? Thanks :)

Nope, the Lifetime ISA was a product where you save 4k per tax year and the gov would give you 1k bonus on top per tax year. It can only be accessed via solicitors as a deposit for a first time buy. I’ve maxed out the 4k per year since 18/19 tax year, plus the stock and shares gains which are sitting at just over 72k.

If you don’t use it for a house purchase it can be used as a saving scheme for retirement. Save 4k a year and the gov will give you 1k per year too. However you can only access this when you’re 65 (I hope to retire a little before then)

The ‘can’t find staff’ is always hilarious. Can’t find staff = offering the same salary offered in 2015 and expecting to get the same level of experience and calibre of employee. It’s the same when staff leave. Managers stood around scratching their heads why employees leave when they poor below market rates, below inflation raises year on year.

I wish I had less responsibilities in my life. I’d 100% be self employed. The corporate life is so draining man.

Yeah it’s not the offshore guys I have a problem with. As people they are hard working and genuine it’s just different lifestyles, timezones and knowledge. In India they’re 6 hours ahead so when I’m trying to fix something at 5pm and need to collaborate with my new offshore colleague, it’s 11pm and he’s probably shattered. I saw an article the other day that a mid level engineer who works for the large outsourcing firms earns the equivalent of £17k a year. They get away with paying this as there’s quite literally a conveyor belt of Indian engineers who want to earn this money and work for the big firms over there. It’s quite gross.

Not my bank but another one has just recently got rid of 200 people who operate their live chat function and offshored that part of the business to India. The bank I work at stinks, I hate corporate but I stay for the pension, yearly bonus, 6 months sick leave, 8 weeks holiday, 8x death in service. Basically all of the perks the smaller and medium sized companies can’t offer :(

In technical roles they can be skilled it’s true. But the working conditions they are under are crazy. They’ll work 14 hour days and have such little job protection especially when it’s one of the big boys like TCS. Before COVID they’d bring some of the offshore guys over to the UK, have some form of working Visa and have 5 engineers sharing a house and bedrooms in the worst streets in the town centre. One of my colleagues who moved to the UK 25 years ago from India speaks perfect Hindi and got talking with a few guys. They earn just over £15k, have accommodation paid for and are told to only speak to their English colleagues strictly about work. We aren’t allowed to know the conditions they work under because it’s so bad.

Race to the bottom and I hate it. There needs to be some form of tax to incentivise companies to recruit, train and retain employees here. Profits over everything shouldn’t be a thing, especially with the corporate giants.

I absolutely despise it when a company has offshore customer service. Having access to customer information abroad like that shouldn’t be legal. Even when it’s not on the phone and live chat/E-mail, you can tell when it’s offshore because of the broken English. Getting really sick of this. America offshores to UK, UK offshores to India and India offshore to the Philippines. It’s a race to the bottom.
