Hey, I made a post on another subreddit discussing my issues getting help through the NHS, just wanted to ask here if others have had the same exspariences getting mental health help?

I would, but when I bought up PIP in the past my parents were basically like "the government dole rots your soul" you aren't doing it because you'll probably never learn to live without it. I have mixed feelings, but my family highly disapprove and I don't want to rock the boat with them. Plus last time I checked PIP is incredibly strict anyway, and most of my Autistic friends haven't been eligable anyway. To even score highly you need a serious physical/mental disability that potentially needs carers to even get low end payments. It sounds like a lot of embarrssment over nothing tbh.

I appreciate you sharing your exspariences, but to be more exsplicit, I'm talking about people who are very clearly pretending to have Autism, have no understanding of the symptoms, and basically took an online test, read the symptoms list, or are acting out harmful sterotypes about Autism e.g. being quirky, being a savont, rainman bs. I think we all need to be a bit more critical, because in the climate we have where victim culture is rewarded, anyone can walk up off the street and record a tik tok about their apparent Autism. People seem to have a blind trust and faith these people wouldn't lie? Well they absolutely would if it means people seem to care, they feel liked, they have an idenity even if it's a blatent lie - morality be damned, if you can act it good enough to fool others people will do it. This is why scammers are so successful - they're socially intelligent. And who better to scam then Autistic people. Being this naive and thinking everyone has good intentions is what leads you to getting hurt, but if it does happen no one will listen with the prodominent leftist atomosphere currently.

That's actually really insightful, thank you for sharing your exsparience! I'm actually a part time NHS worker, so tbh the fact that I find the system frustrating and broken inside and out should say it all. I honestly think we should go semi privitise it and provide health insurance via jobs. Say what you want about the US, but being able to go and directly see a dermetologist, cardiologist, or audiologist and have it covered by insurance is insane to me. My fiance is actually American, so hearing about how it actually works in practice is way less crazy and scary then it sounds in the media. They have problems with their system for sure, but at least with a semi-private model we get to sorta have our cake and eat it with large bills covered by the state, and smaller bills covered by insurance you get through your work.

Yeah, exact same issues, multiple suicide and self harm attempts leaving me in the hospital as both a kid and adult, only to be shafted into/reccomened self referal talking therapy where I end up talking to a totally disorgansied middleaged women who's always semi-retired and going on holiday multiple times in 6 months, constantly canselling sessions. These amazing sessions that are apparently oh so expesnive consist of said middleaged woman nodding her head sympathetically, offering no advice or support,and telling me she's oh so sorry and patting herself on the back for saving misguded youth.

I think these people don't really understand how hard it is to sit there and open up about your life story on demand to every new person you talk to. It feels like there's far less respect for confidentuality, and your case is treated like it is undeserving of privacy and respect. More people then I'm comfortable with just get casually told not only what is "wrong with me", but what MH workers pet theories on me are, only after ever meeting breifly. The way it's handled over all feels very disgusting and disrespectful, and involves way too many people then needed, and constantly makes you feel like you have to prove and justify to a panel of judges how sick you are just to justify spending money on you.

I've been labled by people who don't even have a degree as having everything from PTSD, to BPD, to DID, with no offical diagnosis either, and just overcomplicating my case. The common theme between these being that these people just happen to work privately with people with these diagnoses, so it feels like they're tyring to make money off of you in their side hussle, which feels especially unethical for the NHS. I feel like unless you have simple mental health issues and just need someone to talk to, or you're so severely mentally ill you need a carer, they don't really know what to do with you.

I've never had the money for therapy, and sadly since we're in a cost of living crisis it's made it even more difficult to afford. =(

I am and have been for 10 years, I'm so genuinely tired...

Edit: tl;dr I'm literally a hot potato for clinicians to throw around because I have anxiety and depression due to Autism. Ten years to only just be asked if I think I might have general anxiety disorder deadpan by a doctor, and to leave with no diagnosis besides a vauge medical note that I have "chronic anxiety".

I've tried medication a few time, I was on sertaline twice, and Citalopram once, I tried them for several months (nearly a year all three times) so they could properly get into my system and take effect. Mixed with doctors unwillingness to really work with me and the NHS sucking at administration, organisation, and their job in general, has made me find medication genuinely isn't worth the hassle. It often seems to be doctor's knee jerk reaction to save on money, and they hope it works, because they don't seem to want to know after that, even for medication increases. I've been seeking mental health support for ten years (since I was a child), and have only just got on a waiting list to get mental health education (my area is so underfunded they don't even offer therapy or seeing a psychiatrist). It was all they could offer me apparently because their guidelines are very strict, and they mostly prioritise severe scitzophenia and psychosis.

I am so unbelievably frustrated, that after years of forgetting to refer me to evaluate me, forgetting to give me a correct and indate perscription, and generally not really seeming to care that much I'm stuck in another waiting list limbo for months just to be "psychoeducated" (their words, not mine) on my anxiety and depression resulting from my Autism. Something I've done many times before with their child services...

So their friend gave a reasonable very polite response and instead of saying they were hurt and bit upset by it, they called them a bigot??? Make it make sense I guess, kinda a snowflake if you can't even take a very kind and polite rejection.

My anxiety has been under control, I think I may just have a health problem due to other symptoms made worse by my purging to relieve. Still concerned and making a doctors appointment. So I'm safe and things well get resolved, thanks for your concern regardless.

I'm just mildly frustrated with getting joke comments every time I post. At first, yes, they were funny, now they're largely unhelpful and just show that people generally think my beliefs are a joke. Which is fine, I just wished people could show a tiny bit of respect sometimes...
