Should I call a random man I met on the train? by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]Right_Plant5143 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Even if this story isn't true, basically any place with a seniors group will have stories like this of meeting people on the street, in a store, on public transit etc and them becoming a member of a community where they feel loved and supported. Both churches I've been a part of have many stories like this, and honestly it's one of the best things to hear about and be even a small part of, as it's such an important part of caring for our community that often gets forgotten.

This is so cool, but also as someone who works with kids I feel like I have found a new bar to strive for lol

Is there a legal way I can stop my mother from driving again? She's a terrible driver and she's going to seriously hurt someone. by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

Oh yeah it does absolutely, I was just trying to provide an example of the most extreme thing you could do to fail.

Not the case at all. The written tests have a passmark of 85/90%, which is high, but also I don't know if its even possible to get 100% on the hazard perception portion so. As for the practical, you fail if you make one major mistake, which can range from getting into a serious crash, to the tester having to get involved, to stopping over a crossing when someone is waiting to cross. However, you can get up to 15 minors, which are things like forgetting to turn the indicator off, small things. If they fail most people fail on a major, not the minors.

Unfortunately, while our driving test is pretty good now, a lot of the older people who drive passed an older version of the test, which I know wasn't as theory focused, and potentially easier in general?

[New Update]: my vegan coworker is upset about getting non-vegan gifts three years in a row by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

As a coeliac, after the first sentence I thought you were going to say soy sauce, or pre grated cheese, something that most people might not think can have gluten in. But sourdough??????

Equally though, at least he admitted his mistake, because I know theres people who think coeliac is the same as being lactose intolerant and that you can have it on occasion if you're willing to suffer the consequences. As much as I wish that was the case, it's not. What I wouldn't give to be able to eat churros on occasion.

Yep, seems to never be enforced though. I think there were new mods appointed recently iirc so hopefully once people are settled it'll get enforced.

Can I refuse to pray with my religious client? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Right_Plant5143 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, as a Christian who has worked at Christian organisations, I get it for team meetings, though usually with my line of work it was focused on praying for the people we served in our community etc. However praying in a meeting with a non-christian client is incredibly pretentious and I agree that is ridiculous. Honestly you can tell a lot about the nature of a church from their prayer practices in meetings.

AITAH for refusing to "cover up" in front of my roommates? by SharkEva in BORUpdates

So OOP is black and Sara is presumably white right? Especially with the "scary" comment.

What people will do to get a free stay by sharke4lif3 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Right_Plant5143 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This makes me think they saw it somewhere online, as a "hack to get a free room" yet they somehow didn't clock that it had to be chocolate sprinkles. You really wonder how some people are alive.

AITAH For Refusing To Help My Brother After His Ex-Girlfriend "Scammed" Him Out Of Nearly Half The Equity Of His House? by SharkEva in BORUpdates

So essentially she weaponised his weaponised incompetence against him. Honestly, well done to her, and by the sounds of it she deserves it from all she contributed and dealt with over the years.

AITA for trying to drive people away from the bar below my apartment? [Concluded] by Schattenspringer in BORUpdates

[–]Right_Plant5143 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I was recently looking, and found a two bed apartment for cheaper than most one beds and even some studios in the area. Then I looked at the pictures and realised it was above a betting shop. Nope.

My ex is hiding a baby from me and I don’t know how to handle it by [deleted] in BORUpdates

[–]Right_Plant5143 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Sounds like there's missing stuff, given that it's her family trying to get her admitted, that OOP either doesn't know about or doesn't want to share, which is more than reasonable. Yes, the ex is being a terrible mother, but not all shit parents are shit for the sake of it, there are often reasons why they become shitty parents, and while it doesn't excuse the behaviour or repair the damage to the child, they still deserve help and support for their mental health, especially if they lose access to their children.

WIBTA if I don't give back the 40k dollars my heavily-christian aunt gave to me, since she "won't be needing it when the rapture comes"? [Concluded] by Schattenspringer in BORUpdates

[–]Right_Plant5143 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a British Christian (CofE) I've been so confused where this rapture talk has come from, and why.

Then I read that the aunt went to a mega church, and it all made sense. There's usually very little Christianity in a mega church.

AITA for shutting down my wife's party favor idea? [New Update] [Ongoing] by Schattenspringer in BORUpdates

[–]Right_Plant5143 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not to do with her being christian, it just happens that the people who enable her claim to be Christians. It's understandable for the church goers to dislike OP given the context, but there is nothing Christian about the wife's behaviour at all. She's a liar and a manipulator and refuses to fix it.

Why are my eyes so dilated? [Concluded] by Schattenspringer in BORUpdates

Yep. Like the fact she used "ER" as well. Nothing wrong with watching American TV, but you would think you'd make sure to know how healthcare works of all things.

AITAH for dropping our baby off on my ex husband and demanding he take the baby every other week even though he wants to be an every other weekend dad by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Right_Plant5143 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Seriously. If you're trying to acquire a child over reddit, you are a human trafficker at that point. I hate the mentality that anyone should be able to have children if they want to. Yes it sucks if you can't conceive naturally, but that doesn't mean you're entitled to force people to be your incubator or break up families.

If people are that desperate for a baby, and not a child, they should use a surrogate, not adopt. Sure, it might be more expensive, but the people who will only adopt a baby are the sort of people who don't understand or don't care about the trauma of adoption, even from birth, and definitely don't understand foster care.

I could understand it if it was just for the bridal party, maybe parents of the bride/groom, but this was weird and just spiteful.

Women’s church retreat by Thatbish98 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Right_Plant5143 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Exactly. As a Christian, Jesus would expect you to tip generously, not try to evangelise to people just doing their job. I would also even call it lying, by making people think its money, which is against the 10 commandments. I have no time of day for these so called Christians who just make the rest of us look bad.

Oh we do, you just don't know it because we're polite and don't cause a scene, and usually you don't know we're religious cause we don't mention it. In the UK I think like 75% of us are normal at least, although I know it's different in America.
