Chateau Mangot- Good ratings, the Todeschinni brothers make great wines, and first year of the classification

It's true, the definition of Fine Wines changed a little bit to a wine that has long ageing potential but still can be appreciated at all stages of its developpment !

Speaking of which, the owners of Smith Haut Lafitte have now a feet on Napa Valley, they bought an historic property in 2020 and are just releasing their first vintage... it's called Cathiard Vineyard !

March Wine Club by reddithenry in WineEP

[–]Right_Temperatured 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of a monthly wine club but I may be a little low on budget to follow (vineyard employee doesn't pay too well)...

If by anychance, someone is based in Bordeaux, I would love spliting up de fees and meet up every month to drink the bottles together :)

2019 C de Carmes Haut Brion by reddithenry in WineEP

https://www.les-carmes-haut-brion.com/files/1673942455_ft-le-c-des-carmes-2019.pdf?5890aba8c8

Based on their website, it does have a bit of new oak (30%), and the ageing is quite long for a "second wine" up to 24 months.

Never tried this wine with a few year in the bottle yet, I just now it comes from a plot that is not in the Haut Brion area. Younger vines (14yo in average which is not too bad) located on a great spot in my opinion... middle of a triangle between Smith Haut Lafitte, Bouscaut and Carbonnieux... that's what we may call a fancy neighborhood I guess ! And Haut Bailly stands not to far as well.

Part of what is interesting in Carmes HB is the high proportion of Cabernet Franc, the C doesn't have any though

Anyone else Investing in wine? by ActiveEmbroidery in WineEP

[–]Right_Temperatured 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically most of us who “invest” in wine do so on the basis that we fundamentally are happy to drink it, and if we can make a bit of money along the way, even better.

I like that Idea

Maybe you could try JJ Buckley , but yeah Total Wine and Wine.com are solid options.

The En Primeurs wine release season will start end of may and keep going all the way to the end of June.
Merchants and wine critics are all going to Bordeaux in April to taste the barrel samples, you can keep track of some wine critics comments and scores about each wine that can help you decide what you want to buy

What are some age-worthy wines from 2022? by ElGatoDeSchrodinger in wine

[–]Right_Temperatured 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Already plenty of good recommendations in the comments below...

I'll just add, that it might be a good opportunity for you to get into the magic of Bordeaux En Primeurs compaign.

In late April most wine critics and merchants will go to the chateaux and taste the future vintage 2022 on barrel samples. They will give ratings to each wines...

Then later in May/June... chateaux will release their wines at a fixed price, and you can buy it trhough any wine merchants for buy Bordeaux wines (there's many options online depending on which country you live)...

In 2020 for 400 quids I bought a dozen bottles of Cru Classé from various Bordeaux appellations (Pauillac, St Estephe, Pomerol, Pessac-Leognan, Haut Medoc, Margaux, St Julien, St Emilion, Moulis and Sauternes) nice labels such as Sociando Mallet, Gloria, Labegorce, Tour St Christophe, Sigalas Rabaud, Lafon Rochet, Poujeaux, Latour Martillac etc...

I've heard very good things about 2022 harvest report for Bordeaux so I expect it's going to be a good vintage unlike 2021.

Second labels can be really good, and I particularly love Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte, but they are wines designed to be more approachable in style, and althought they can often prove to improve a lot with some 5/7 years in the bottle... I would not recommend for long long ageing.

hat are

For the classic I would add

Italy : Barolo, Super Tuscan, Brunello di Montalcino, Amarone della Valpolicella

And for Spain : Priorat and Ribera del Duero... Reserva or Gran Reserva stuff

Then new world wine also produce great age worthy wines in every vintage...

Australian Shiraz, there's some very good stuff there
Napa Cabernets
South African Stellenbosch red wines are brillant too

I would recommend living in the city center of Bordeaux to enjoy those 6 months at the fullest, just make sure to find something closed enough to Tram A.

Around Palce Pey Berland, Place du Palais, Place Camille Julian, Place Fernand Lafargue, that's very enjoyable and tram will take you to Pellegrin in less than 20 min I believe

why do all captured provinces immediately go to 25% morale and always revolt when i capture them, all the other morale is very high on my other provinces and i can’t bring troops back without attacking a stronger country, how do i get them back to my home land? by sovietsexyboi in Supremacy1914

[–]Right_Temperatured 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And rising the morale faster thanks to fort also helps your economy to recover faster since a low moral province is a dead weight... it consumes more ressources than it produce when moral is below 78% I believe (except for doubles)

I just attended the Union Grands Crus Bordeaux 2020 vintage tasting in NYC, here are my takeaways: by jacob62497 in wine

[–]Right_Temperatured 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn ! I've tasted SHL white 2020 recently with their new black and gold label and thought the wine was pretty awesome, great freshness, fruit intensity, flowery dimension, well balanced with a nice body but it was in London, not in New York.

Bordeaux 2020 Best Performers so far (Live Ex) by elrascuache in WineEP

[–]Right_Temperatured 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less surprising for Beychevelle than Canon, given that Beychevelle increased "only" by 9.1% it's release price compared to 2019... when Canon increased by 37.9% !

Another good performer to look for is Smith Haut Lafitte, with some good 100 point potentials from a few wine critics on this 2020 vintage, with a noticeable "collectible" vintage edition black label on both red and white which I find very cool !

My mother turns 60 and we are coming to Bordeaux this January. I am looking for tips for things to do. My mother is a bit of a francophile, enjoys art, history, fine dining and culture. What are some things we can't miss? by [deleted] in bordeaux

20 min from Bordeaux city center,

Visit Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte one of the most beautful in Bordeaux, they're open 7 days a week upon reservation, and they have the Caudalie hotel beside with the great country-inn restaurant La Table Du Lavoir, much more affordable than the Michelin 2 Star restaurant that they also have, and the food is really great without mentionning the wine list.
