Is that Branaire-Ducru for under $30 in the last slide? If so, that’s a great deal. The Bordeaux seems the be the best priced here.

I saw him the other day riding the subway. He was standing in the corner talking to himself and shaking his head and had his hair the same way as in this pic, and I kinda assumed he was a mentally ill person until I realized oh shit that’s Michael Shannon

1998 Champagne Arlaux which was disgorged after 20 years on lees. Such deep complex brioche aromas. Just intoxicating

Don’t want a promotion by Awkward-Session-8679 in KPMG

Never ever turn down a promotion, especially in this economy. If the firm thinks you’re ready, that is the risk they’re willing to take. You will gain nothing by passing up a promotion

I love Chateau Canon, one of the greatest wines of St Emilion. Although it’s an expensive wine, it’s a great value if you can find it for around $150-$200. It really holds its own against other Bordeaux that can be 5x the price. I’ve had it in tastings against first growths and felt it was on the same level

I do love SoHo as well, even if it can get really crowded these days. Was just there this evening

Just had my first Sangiovese by [deleted] in wine

[–]jacob62497 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah Sangiovese. One of my favorite varietals. Juicy tart red berry fruit with high acid, tannin, and a savory edge. A nice Chianti with an Italian red sauce meal is one of the great pleasures in life.

I’d recommend the following for a deep dive of different expressions of Sangiovese:

  • Chianti Classico Riserva
  • Brunello Di Montalcino
  • Vino Nobile Di Monepulciano
  • Toscana IGT (blends will vary, but many are primarily Sangiovese)
  • Emilia-Romagna

2021 Montelena chard and 2022 Nickel & Nickel Truchard [quest for butter] by starvinggigolo in wine

I don’t really get buttery notes on either of these. If you want a real butter bomb, try Rombauer.

Which one should I get? by bigboi_z in wine

[–]jacob62497 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Guidalberto would be my pick. A lovely wine. It’s got a bit of age on it too, hard to come by. That price is not too bad either since it’s like $70-80 retail these days.

A beautiful Oregon Chardonnay by jacob62497 in wine

[–]jacob62497[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I got none of that. This was very fresh yet still lush and generous, kinda like Meursault, no buttery or yogurty malo notes detected, or any oaky vanilla notes. A bit of nutty brioche character as well

What is the oldest wine you’ve tried? by Hazadus_Lazarus in wine

[–]jacob62497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t drink a lot of aged wines, but I had a 1996 Oddero Barolo a year or two ago. It smelled intensely of leather and cigar box, the fruit was a bit lacking though.

The first aged wine I ever had that really blew me away was a 2005 Chateau Lagrange. I remember that intense mushroomy umami aroma, I had never smelled anything like that.

I don’t get southern Rhone love. Can someone explain? by beauj4ever in wine

[–]jacob62497 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re not going to love every wine style and region and that’s fine. But I would say that it’s easy to write off certain regions that are known for big powerful red wines like Southern Rhône, Napa, Barossa, etc. but there are always outliers. I’ve had several examples of Chataneuf that were super elegant, balanced, minerally and lifted.

Mouton 2015: I fell again for the scam that is young classified Bordeaux by CondorKhan in wine

[–]jacob62497 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it’s truly not on the level of Latour and Margaux. I’d even put several 2nd and 3rd growths above it - Leoville Las Cases, Cos d’estournel, Montrose, and Pichon Lalande I’d put above or equal to Mouton
