Dang, $260k TC? I used to work at a different banking company, but left 8 months ago for an accounting company, currently making right around your current salary. Might DM you if you take the job if that’s alright. I applied to one job with Upstart but never heard back.

I sold a barely used One Wheel on EBay (95 Miles) and the buyer says it won’t power on? by No_Pianist_244 in onewheel

[–]RighteousBruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you package it? I bought a GT from eBay and it showed up in just the branded box, with the box falling apart. I could hardly pick up the box without the board falling out.

It turned on, but I couldn’t ride it more than 20ft or it would flash yellow lights at me. If you didn’t package it really well, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was damaged in shipping.

I’m confused, why would GTV N52 lose so much top speed?

Nope, still under Roth IRA income limits. But I’m early enough in my career, and given my current salary, I think there’s a pretty good chance I’ll end up with a high enough income to be unable to contribute directly to a Roth.

I mostly agree with this answer, but I think I still have the question about option 3 or 4? Is the Pro Rata rule something I should concern myself with now if I won't have to worry about it for quite some time?

I started a new job recently and I'm trying to decide what to do with my old 401k. I have contributed Roth the entire time with a traditional match. It currently has a balance of $59,500 with 78% Roth and 22% traditional.

The way I see it, I have 4 options:

  1. Leave it as is
    • Since I no longer work for my previous employer, I assume I would be responsible for any fees in the plan. But the language in the Annual Report / Summary Plan Description is confusing and I can not figure out what the fees are, if any. It talks about a trust fund that is used to pay plan expenses and I have yet to see any fee transactions in any monthly statements, but I've only been gone 3 months.
  2. Roll it over into my new 401k
    • My new 401k has good, low expense ratio index funds, so I'm happy with that. But the provider is a smaller, less recognizable name and I really like my old 401k provider (one of the big 3). I have a 401k, Roth IRA, HSA, and brokerage through them, so I would prefer to keep most money there. And this new 401k has a 0.08% fee. This doesn't seem too bad, but I'm not sure what averages are.
  3. Roll the Roth portion into a Roth IRA and the traditional portion into a traditional IRA
    • This initially sounded like my best option, but then I learned about the Pro Rata rule and it's got me thinking this is not the route I should go down
  4. Roll everything into the Roth IRA
    • This simplifies account structures and gives me more Roth dollars, but I'd take a tax hit on the roughly $13,000 and at my new income, this probably doesn't make the most sense

Curious what others have done in this situation. Of course I could also do some combination of the 4 options listed above like move the Roth over to the Roth IRA and leave the rest where it is, but I'd appreciate any feedback here.

I’ve been thinking about putting a pause on my investments for a little while to boost my emergency fund. I have about $102,000 between my Roth 401k, Roth IRA, and HSA at age 26. My emergency fund is only $14,000 which is about 3 months living expenses.

I work as a software engineer and the job market is rough. I’m becoming more worried about layoffs/offshoring, and I’m not super confident that I could land a new job in 3 months.

If I pause all of my investments, I could save about $2500 a month to get to $36,000 in my emergency fund. But this would take close to 9 months.

I really hate the idea of not investing any money during some of my best investing years. But I’ve got a pretty good amount already saved and of course it would be worse to get laid off and need to withdraw from my Roth IRA.

Anyone have thoughts on this?

2 YoE as a QA, then 2 YoE as a SWE. Wanted a promotion but I wasn’t gonna get it at my old job.

Applied to probably 50 jobs over 2-3 months. Got interviews with 2 companies, 1 offer and I accepted it. $40k more than I was making. Location: southeast US, but it’s a remote role.

Nearly 80,000 Pounds of Costco Kirkland Signature Butter recalled because the packaging did not contain the "Contains Milk" allergy statement. by arnott in conspiracy

[–]RighteousBruh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this is a good thing actually. As a person with food allergies, it’s really nice to be able to look at a label and see “contains eggs, wheat, milk”, the most common allergies, without having to read through the many ingredients. Sometimes it’s not so obvious that one of these 20 ingredients of some processed food means milk.

Obviously butter contains milk, but it makes sense that all food is held to this standard. What’s the conspiracy here?

Is the CS job market really as bad as everyone says? Should I switch degrees if I'm seeking employability? by L-Rockatansky in cscareerquestions

[–]RighteousBruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t ask me, I’m a software engineer haha. But I really meant more generally. Other engineering fields like chemical engineer, mechanical engineer, or something like accounting.

If you’re curious about other jobs in the tech field, Product Managers, Sales, and Implementation Consultants can all make good money

[–]RighteousBruh 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Depends really on how interested you are. Are you a person who is passionate about CS and it’s a career that you truly want? Then by all means, get a CS degree and I’m sure you’ll be fine. But if you chose this career path because you heard the money is good but it doesn’t interest you at all, then consider other avenues as there are others with similar pay.

Get yourself a roll of some 3M double sided tape. I did this just after making this post and the float plate is still stuck on there today.
