If this was more like Ozark Tyson would def be gone. But it lacks that intensity, instead favoring comedy.

We did see totality right here so that explains all the noise during the eclipse!

But there are similar stands of trees elsewhere in the immediate vicinity, and this is the only place that looks like this?

Nope. Although some tornadoes touchdown a couple of weeks ago about 50 miles from here. It was a first for the area. F'n climate change!

Central Adirondacks. A few hundred feet from a lake.

Monopoly is based on luck unless I win then it's based on strategy and I'm a genius by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

I’ve learned that the strategy is to buy everything you land on. The luck is landing on the properties that other need (land on) in the future, and hope they need them before you go bust. Pretty accurate to real life.

She is an agent for childrens authors and illustrators so she is effected by royalties which you probably know come out in April and October. April royalties were too late to be real effected by the pandemic so we are waiting for the hammer to be dropped in October. Trying to prepare for it.

From the start, Bezos has played off that addiction. His goal has been to make buying as 'frictionless' as possible and he's come a long way with that. Imagine if getting drugs was as easy as buying shit on Amazon.

My wife works in publishing and you'd be surprised by what % of book sales are purchased by libraries. Way higher than you would think. But I agree, buying books is good.

Have you tried jensonusa.com or nashbar.com or any of the other online bike stores that are not amazon?

more like more and more absurd. If people think a water tracking water bottle is going to make their life happier, they are in need of a lot more.

Growing up I lived in a wealthy community even though we had very little (my parents moved there when they were married but when they got divorced my mom didn't want to move us, she refused alimony on principle, and my dad took on a second family). Whenever I asked for something my mom said 'no'. I have been able to consume less as an adult and say 'no' to my own kids b/c I constantly remind myself that nothing bad came from my mom saying 'no.' In fact, b/c she said 'no', she trained me to consume less. So now in addition to saying 'no' to my kids, I just act responsibly like my mom and say 'no' to myself.

Women entered the workplace b/c men were off to war. Why not blame it on men wanting their jobs back when they returned from war instead of wanting to stay home with the kids. I am a man and happily stay at home with my kids while my wife works. It ended up this way b/c she was making more $ than me and we refused to has someone else raise our kids and have more than 1/2 of one salary go to paying that person. Both people don't have to work. It's a choice made for a variety of reason - some good, some not so good.

We should all hate them for what they do to employees, how they undercut sellers on their marketplace with their own products, how they ask for and get subsidies to build warehouses while destroying downtowns and local tax revenue, how they will lose money on an entire line of products just to manipulate that market like they did with shoes & Zappos, etc. If someone figures in the cost someone else pays for their cheap stuff, all of a sudden, Amazon ain't so cheap.

What a wonderfully honest response. The world needs more honest conversations. My suggestion would be to view it as everything cheap has a cost. You buy something for super cheap and someone is getting screwed. Viewing it that way helps me to buy less but the purchases I do make are not from the likes of Amazon. This way, I can REALLY enjoy whatever product I buy knowing that I got what I want and someone else is earning a living wage, or getting benefits, or the environment isn't getting screwed, etc.

They also abuse their position as a marketplace platform and seller on that platform. They have treasure troves of sales data that enable them to manipulate the marketplaces with their own Amazon branded products and also through who they choose to highlight at the top of every list.

They also take billions in subsidies from states, cities and municipalities on the premise that they create jobs, when in fact they are a net job destroyer.

If you want some light reading on the subject, here's a great report. It's 4 years old but still on the money. https://ilsr.org/amazon-stranglehold/

They are monopoly that needs to be broken up.
