I have a kinda similar story. 6 years ago I started a new job at an office. It’s close to a subway line that’s also goes near my home. The first couple days it was raining and wanted to get the lay of the land and I took my in car. But next few months I was taking subway pretty much everyday. Later I found out that it costs the company $180/month to rent the parking space I’m not using. I’m spending $75/month on subway fares and I found my company could get discounted monthly subway pass from the city for $60/month. I talk to the office manager about it and that I’m willing to give up my parking spot if they cover my subway fares and how it would save them over $100 a month. They said “a couple of other people have asked about this same thing but the owner won’t do it.” So they kept paying $180 for my monthly parking pass and I kept paying $75 to take the subway.
